Thanks for the great write-up. Just did my first oil change. I now know you were being sarcastic about unscrewing the oil filter cap by hand. Glad I had my wrench handy. Next time I will buy the exact wrench as my standard universal oil wrench scratched the oil cap a bit (no big deal).

M1 5w30 does not meet the LL-01 certification thus it is not the correct oil for your car. If someone at the BMW dealership told you to use that oil I would never listen to any of their advise again.
