I took the car in and apparently they drained 1l (!) of extra oil. The service manager told me that the supervisor was "chastising left and right so that they don't do it again"... Good thing I went, 1l extra is just. wow. I drove it for a total of 10 km and didn't feel anything strange, nor got any other warning apart from the one in iDrive's electronic level monitor. One thing that I did notice though was that when I had parked yesterday (oil wasn't even at operating temperature), there was a distinct ticking sound coming from the engine, kind of like something was boiling (guess what).
Lesson learnt - always check oil level after a visit to the dealer...
