Ditto on the N55 as reliable. Its why I drove an N52 328i after my 2007 530. Never wanted any part of that N54 or the N63.
That's not to say they are all bad and there are many n63 owners here that will tell you they never had an issue. To me the 550i over 80,000 miles tends to have a higher frequency. This is not my experience but from what I have read. Again, that's not to say there are plenty of happy trouble free owners.
