I've had my BMW for about a month now and waxed it a week after I had it. I'm going to do as you did and give it a good thorough washing with Dawn and then a wipe down with the IPA.
I hope that after the Dawn washing I do not see any issues from my initial hand wash (swirling, etc.) otherwise I'll have to have it buffed out.
