I'm kinda puzzled, I thought the N57 was offered in two variations, the 30d and 40d (x5 as an example) I thought the 40d was a single turbo with twin scroll technology. I looked at the specs listed at BMW.CO.UK and sure enough it lists the 535d as a twin turbo, same with the x5 40d. 30d is listed as a turbo. The funny this the 30d and 40d are rated at the exact same mpg.

From my understanding the N57 is more fuel efficient that the M57. So if the 535d is a M57 how could it get the same MPG as the 530d N57? Very strange. Hopefully a knowledgeable Euro member can shed some more light on this.
