Windshield Upper Molding
Hello All,
I'm attempting to replace the windshield upper molding (P/N: 51 31 7 203 121) but I am stuck at the moment. The rubber has been falling off for quite some time now so I decided to attempt to replace it. Attached is what has come off along with a picture of the new molding. Where I'm stuck at currently is whether or not the entirety of the old molding is removed. I believe the metal portion of the molding is still down in the crevice and attached to the windshield as I would expect this part of the molding would come out as one long piece. It seems that just the top portion (above the metal) has come off at this point. Hope this is clear.... Has anyone replaced this before? I haven't been able to find a F10 specific thread or video. Any help is appreciated. |

Thanks for your help. Could you take a close up of that gap between the windshield and the roof?
Here is a screenshot of what I used to order the 'molding'. You could also call it a seal. It's not the seal of the windshield to the body, it's more for keeping dirt and water off of that seal. Have you ever had your windshield replaced? Perhaps it was never put back on? |

This video is for an E60 but the concept is the same. Our design is different and the seal seems to be further under the glass than on the E60. Our roof trim, like the one he popped off to gain access to the end of the seal, goes all the way down the glass so I'm not sure it would be a good idea to try to pop that off.

You have the seal. The red arrow is pointing to the upper edge. It's just yours is still in great shape. Here is a picture of what mine looked like about a week ago. Almost all of the seal that wasn't molded around the metal stiffener of the seal that's tucked under the windshield had come off.

Thanks, I haven't gotten anywhere yet. I'm afraid of ruining the actual windshield seal, the metal part is tucked in there good compared to the E series. I'll keep digging at it.

In ky experience with these windshiled moldings on e39's it is worth just paying a windshiled installer to do it. I could jever get it right on my own. The metal clip seems to get glued in.
Side note; I just had my windshiled replaced yesterday and the installer specifically showed me this molding. My molding was identical to yours and he said that type of molding was discontinued. BMW updated the molding to this: |
