F10 DP Fumes
Morning/Afternoon All.
I know this topic has been discussed many times. Gone thru a bunch of threads and it seems that ppl are on both sides on the fence. I've seen a lot of discussion specifically in the F30 groups. I've been contemplating whether to go with a catless DP or catted DP. I have been sorta siding with the latter as I am concerned about any potential fumes. I have a 535 with BMS intake, JB4 & Remus Quad Exhaust. For me, I don't think its a major issue as my car is mostly a weekend car... but my family is typically with me on the weekends and not sure how much they will be able to tolerate any fumes (marriage problems!) I know of the basic shortcomings of each option, but wanted to see if any of you guys have a similar setup and what your thoughts have been in terms of the smell. Does it seep into the cabin even with windows up? Thanks in advance for any input. |

thanks for the reply & info. To be honest, to me it seems sort of self-defeating to go from OEM dp to a catted dp. I know its not comparing apples to apples, but I'm sure you know what I mean. Not even considering the 2x cost differential. My other other concern was passing yearly emissions, but I have heard other ppl failing even with a catted DP.

The thing is the aftermarket cats are small 200cell units. Yes they often throw faults the same as having no cat at all.
The factory downpipe actually has 2 cats in it. The first unit is a 400 cell, and the second is a 600 cell with several inches between them. It is as a result extremely efficient. Lower cell count are going to be larger cells, thus flow more, but generally scrub exhaust gas less. |

Winter time I cannot smell the fumes at all unless I am standing right by the exhaust tip. As for summer time, I smell it when sitting on a red light, not too bad though once your nose get use to it you dont even notice it at all after that.
Windows rolled up no smell at all. |

If you have the family in there they will not be happy. You will have to just drive with the windows up and recycle air on when they're with you. Make sure it's properly seated and it will greatly reduce the fumes. I also found the weather stripping on the passenger door at the bottom wasn't completely in. Pushing that all the way in reduced the fumes a lot too. Don't forget to get it coded.

thank you to all for their input, all good info to consider.
Stuck, maybe its because you have smooth roads with little traffic in Texas so most of the time you are flying around & rarely stuck at a light. I can always tell the fam that we will always use wifey's car on weekends. lol.. |

No drone, turbos way more audible, but personally I don't like the tin-can sound it's makes on the N55. Also referred to as rasp. Thats subjective of course. Might sound awesome on the 8cyl
