Exhaust for MY11 550i

New to this forum but have been a member of the m5board for a while (previously had a modded E60 M5). Like the M5, I'm customizing my 550i (w/ M Sport Pkg) to my liking and next on my list is the exhaust.

I've spent countless hours searching the forums and viewing every YouTube video I could find and have narrowed my options down the to the Active Autowerke or Eisenmann "Sport" systems (looking at axle back systems only at this time). I'm not looking for anything too loud (subjective, I know); hence my decision not to go with the Eisenmann Race.

I'd like something that will produce a nice low tone, rumbling, and the occasional 'pops' are nice bonus too. I want minimal droning (understanding there will be 'some' with any aftermarket exhaust), but not overbearing in any way. I get this is totally subjective but I'm hoping readers with the AA or E-Sport systems will chime in with their opinions.

Frankly, I'm leaning toward AA but sound files are limited at best, and I can't find a single forum opinion on them. I've also read some readers noting some drone (other BMW models), which has kept me from pulling the trigger.

My budget is under $3K with shipping/tax and both systems fit that bill.

Comments/opinions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I'd get the lsd motorsports system full for under 2k vs a high prices axle back.
If you keep down pipes should be really nice and mellow sounding

Not familiar with LSD motorsports but checked out their website... are you referring to Megan exhausts? Thought they only offered mufflers for the f10 550... Spending less is always a bonus though!

Active Autowerke's exhaust is by far your best choice, especially if you opt for their downpipes as well. Amazing turbo spool sound + impressive gains in hp.

No not Megan. They are making a new system for the 550i.

Call and ask for Mike he will give you the details.
I have the proto type on right now. They will release it soon.

Thanks for the insight. So, just to confirm, the AA system produces minimal drone, if any?Would love to add the downpipes as well, but don't want the emissions hassle.

I'll do that. Thanks for the tip.

I know it's a hassle but if you get the chance, would love to hear a sound clip of the prototype your testing.

Thanks again!

Just listened to combat's clips and they do sound amazing. Probably one of the best I've heard (and I've heard a LOT). However, it's just too loud for a DD in my opinion. I'll keep an eye out for the clip with stock downpipes, though. May be closer to what I'm looking for... Thanks for the clips combat.

Anyone else with any comments on the AA or E-Sport exhausts, or other recommendations? Any advice you might have will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am right in line with you thomthom. Have you listened to Supersprint? I'm not sure if I like it or not just yet. Otherwise the Eisen and AA are the only ones that are okay. My favorite of course is the crazy $$$ Akrapovic! The exact sound I'm looking for. Just not looking to spend $8k!

I went ahead and purchased the AA exhaust and having them installed today. I'll update this post and let you know what I think. Sounds like you and I are looking for the same sound/tone, so perhaps my opinion will be helpful. Stay tuned.
