Boost gauge installed
Always love having a boost gauge on my turbo cars.
I did a simple mounting setup. so it wont affect the cars interior. (drill the dash and damages etc.) i mounted it on the wiper arm, with a tie wrap. yup it may be getto, but it works, and i can take it off without any visible damage to the cars interior in 5 minutes. I got a carbon gauge pod to keep it all clean, and wrapped the cables with a cable sleeve. The complicated part was getting the signal. Our cars don't have, (at least from what i found) a pressure source to tap off of to get a boost signal. if you tap off any of the vacuum hoses in the engine compartment, you get a continuas 10inch of vacuum, this is from the electric vacuum pump. The only place i found i could get a easily accessible pressure source was on the drive side intercooler that was a pressure sensor prethrottle body. see item 11 in the diagram. Not the best place, as you normally want it in the intake manifold to see exactly what the motor see's, but what can i say, i didn't want to get too deep into the engine and removing lots of parts to get to the intake manifolds. I made a simple adaptor plate that fit between the intercooler and the pressure sensor. with the gauge tube tapping into the plate. Don't have a picture of it, as its installed. Here are a few pics of my simple setup.

BTW,
Someone needs to find a way to get the ecu's boost signal to display in the heads up display. That would be hot.

Nice work! Interesting you couldn't find a vacuum hose for boost...
I had a vent gauge installed on my last car and loved it, emailed them to get them to build one for this car but haven't heard back. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=504585 Some of the piggyback tuners have hijacked the canbus network to control the gauges on the instument cluster, so I would imagine HUD is not impossible. |

Hey I'm having trouble seeing which Vacuum tube I could use . I understand it's on the driver side . But is the hose the one next to the hose that has the painted mark on it ? Or is it even lower down the inter cooler ? Thanks

I redid my connection a few months back.
I used a map sensor adaptor, that people use in the import world, and machined it to work on my 550i. This is required to get a hose tap to get a pressure signal. Since i did it on the intercooler side, pre-throttle body, i only see boost, and no vacuum reading.

Where did you route the air line through the firewall? I'm thinking I need one of these, the only concern I have is when I add meth will any moisture get in the line?
