Sounds like there has been quite a lot of problems with the DAB system judging by some of the threads I've read here. They're now only letting you order it with one of the nav systems, so I guess that would be your starting point for a retrofit.

Not sure if can retrofit but DAB works well only issue I had from new was station info (current track playing etc etc) wasn't displaying next to the 'i' symbol. This was fixed in latest s/w update so all seems fully in order now.

Had a check on realoem.
So this is what I think. If you have a PRO nav they put this computer behind your dash which iclude hard disk. If not they put in this. Then voice control, DAB, TV and business navigatition is only a matter of enabling the selected options by using the correct enable codes. The only other "entertainment" hardware I could find isthe combox which they will add if you have bluetooth/usb in armrest option. If this is correct, retrofitting DAB should just be a coding thing. The downside with this is that £300 for DAB no longer feels like a bargin. |

Thanks was looking at realoem myself and could not find dab info with regards install location or extra box. I can't believe that it may already be installed just not activated. will see if partrys knows anything about the f10 software and if he could simply activate the dab and tv tuner!

Technically I think this makes sense. DAB is really a matter of combining FM reception with digital music/video decoding. And the box already do both without DAB.
I think the codes are unique for each vehicle and ordered directly from BMW central so it is not simple to hack, but I know some out there are trying. (http://www.bimmerretrofit.com / http://www.**************/forum.php) . But for me the car is too expensive to try things like this... |

Basically the US have Sirius and the UK have DAB, although DAB is not as functional as Sirius. We can't pause / Rewind etc.

Actually the U.S. has "HD" digital radio which sounds like it is functionally the equivalent of DAB. Digital radio is a terrestrial system and the signal is transmitted on the same FM or AM carrier as the analog signal and has regional coverage as does analog radio. SiRUS is a space based system that covers the whole country or at least the lower 48 states as well as Canada. It is a subscription service with at least 100 channels. U.S. vehicles come equipped with HD, but SIRUS is an option.
