Dissapointed

I recently leased a 2013 demo 535i with 10 K miles per year. I am not sure I got a good deal, but here are the specifics: 1,500 down, $588 a month (including tax). Has premium package and navigation.

However, I am not the least bit impressed with this vehicle. The car feels airy and lacks substance. It is like BMW did not want their customers to even remotely test the limits. I was doing about 35-40 on a winding road and felt I was out of control. My previous car was an 04 Lexus GS 300 and I would have felt more comfortable driving on that same road.

I want to somehow just go back to a 335i, preferably an E90 as I don't think any car can match its performance and feel in its price category.

The 335i E90 / E92 was probably the best cars BMW ever made. Awesome, now that I look back.

You should have gotten an F10 on an M suspension (i.e RWD 2013 M Sport). It's a night and day difference from the pre-LCI base suspension and you'd notice the car "wake up" and feel like a true BMW without sacrificing much if at all in smooth ride and comfort.

I think you got a great deal at least, but if you wanted something more sporty you simply got the wrong outfitted F10, i.e the F10 itself isn't incapable of meeting your needs.

F10 with msport suspension is night & day difference with the standard suspension. Handling, ride height, steering input, significantly sharper and sportier than standard suspension.

Just put some sport springs on it and it will transform the car.

You should've gotten the new GS then.

They doesn't. And you shouldn't expect so much of people who can't spell "disappointed".

Well, no one ever got into any 3 series and said, "Damn, this thing is awesome as it drives like a 5 series."

It's the other way around, the 5 and 7 series are designed to feel like a 3 series.

It all comes down to physics, a larger car won't handle as well as a smaller car.

If you bought a 5 thinking it will handle better than a 3 then you may have made a mistake.

The number one rule is to make sure you like what you are going to be spending so much money on. OK, so you made a mistake - we all do. Now, you need to get rid of it without losing too much money and there are swapalease places where you can get someone to take over your lease.

Make sure you give your new Lexus a thorough test drive before you sign on the bottom line - better yet, take it home overnight if you can. There is one thing about BMWs and Porsches: the same model of the same car can feel/drive completely different depending on the equipment each has. My 550i with the M sport suspension (Adaptive Drive) and IAS (Integral Active Steering) feels like a sports car to me - a heavy one - but solid, substantial and totally in control with a wonderful steering feel. The regular 5 series felt like a Lexus to me

Exactly this. Just upgrade the suspension and call it a day or pay the penalties and move on. It would suck being stuck in a lease with a car you don't enjoy driving.

You may want to consider a set of ACS Springs... Night and day difference that truly wakes the F10 up.

Bmoney2K4,
If your car is a loaner car, I would get the front wheel alignment check, people beat the crap out of these cars and fly thru potholes. That might be your handling problem right there.

How much do these springs cost? When I return the lease, they must be taken off, correct?

It's just an irritating time right now for me. I am stuck with a car I think, while expensive, is not that much valuable to me considering I made a wrong choice and when away from what I was most looking for in a car i.e. nimbleness and the feel of raw power.

My 550i with the M-Sport suspension was very nice, but adding the ACS springs transformed it.

You sure can get out of your car but be prepared to lose money in the process. you can plan on loosing 5k or more in trying to get out of the 5 and into a 3. Your payment will likely remain the same or go up but I doubt that it will go down. the other thing you can try is to find someone to assume the lease.

Do the ACS springs lower the car as well? Do they work OK with the rest of the M-Sport suspension?

Yes...about an inch. Great compliment to the M-Sport suspension.
