hey

I got a question about my 550i cigarette lighter, i have my radar detector connected to it but when i shut of the car and lock it the power stays on from the cigarette lighter, is that how its set up or is there a way to change it so it will shut of power once the car is locked.

It does go off eventually. Mine takes about 6-7 minutes to go off but I've heard of another that takes 15 minutes. Lock the car and come back 10 minutes later, it will be off. Which outlet are you using? There is a convenient one right underneath the glove box

You might also try using the cigarette lighter socket underneath the glove box - it might have a different delay, or no delay at all.

I used the one int he console before I had time to install my detector as suggested by 1HOT BMR. From my recollection they both behave the same way with respect to how long the stay on. I just locked up and came back some short time later to make sure it was off - maybe 10 mins. Though, to be honest I never actually timed it.

Mine powers down shortly after I turnoff the car *without locking it, which I don't do when it's in my garage*

hey you guys are right, it does go of after a while, im using the one in the center console next to ipod connections, and the one under the glvoe box has the same issue it goes of after a while. I wanted make sure so i dont kill my battery.
