Chrome Door Handle Strips.

Does anyone know if you can purchase the chrome strips for the door handles?

Cheers

Simon, did you find anything out....the way I configured my new 535 M-sport, I did not order the Premium 1 package and probably will be getting door handles without the chrome strips...the chrome strips are a very nice addition and match up nicely with the M-sport wheels...did you check with a locak BMW dealer parts department???

Probably need to change the door handles themselves as the chrome strips are recessed.

Yeah the stripes arecessed into the handles, just thought someone might have seen some stick on ones...

Cheers

Rather than starting a new DYI, here is what I learned. You can get the inserts out relatively easily. Use a good adhesive remover and a small flat screwdriver. The catch in the front is small. Start there and slowly work your way back. Be careful. It's still unsure if you can get the inserts individually or if you have to purchase an entire handle assembly if one breaks. I will update with the adhesive I used when I get the parts back from paint.

I used 3M outdoor mounting tape which you can find at a hardware store. I think it is also the same as trim / molding tape you find at an auto store. It seems to work just fine but it is thicker than the BMW adhesive and 3M 4925 would be what I recommend using to put them back on.

How do you get the adhesive remover behind the chrome? Checked with the dealership and they said that the chrome strip could not be sold by itself. I need to black them out ASAP. Any info would help Thanks

As far as I know, you still cannot buy the inserts alone so be careful if you wish to proceed.

I used a product called "Liftoff". The bottle has a bit of a nozzle and I did what I could to get it behind the insert. I tried not to use much because I didn't want it going into the handle or door. I took the first one off without any chemicals but the others were easier with the adhesive remover.

As an update, it still looks great. The adhesive I used is good. No regrets. Again, be careful until someone offers replacements.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to give it a try as soon as I find a good body shop to do the painting. Did you go flat black or does it have a gloss to it?

I went with gloss for both the inserts and fender light trim to match my performance grills and shadowline trim. If you are considering the fender trim, do it all at once and save a couple $$.

I also had gloss 3M tape professionally installed. It did not required insert's removal. So far holding just fine

If you going to black them out go with vinyl, you don't need to take the crime handles out.

I haven't ordered any yet. The price needs to come down for four small pieces of plastic for me to purchase, then pay more to have them painted.
