Any hidden features to the f10?
Anyone know of pleasant surprises or unadvertised features of the f10?? I want to be able to maximize the tech and toys of this car to the fullest and am wondering if there are any features that I would be unaware of?
An example would be the residual heat function! I would have never known about it if I didn't read a thread on it!

Believe it or not but for me it was the voice recognition feature and how it integrates to the phone book. The dealer went over everything with me but not this feature and I never read about it in the manual. So one day I press the button and start saying things to it and it works quite well (better than Siri actually). Now only if it would work with Siri..

You have it backwards. One does not "have" the dot. The dot has you.

The auto ventilation. It might be old to you but I came from a Mercedes and this wasn't available in it even though it was a high end one. I smoke and my cars always smell like an ash tray. With the f10 I set the thing to ventilate the car every night and it always smells fresh.

Settings> climate and set both timers. I have them set where it does it while I'm at work and at night. You just have to set them once and after that you just check them manually after done driving for the day... Little annoying in the beginning but it becomes a habit later on, just a minute before you get home you check them which takes less than 5 seconds. It's worth it if you're a smoker.

USB under dash/ Scroll Wheel for recent calls
I have the DOT, and until the DOT works, it does not have me
It is probably an ambient light sensor as others have said (since I have NO special options and the basic radio, no Nav, no bugger all).... my speculation is that it might be a small LED to warn you if your alarm went off whilst you were away (e.g strong wind etc. or an actual attempt to break-in)... Need to test this by sitting in the car and turning alarm on Couple of things I found on this forum which are useful and not documented AFIAK:- Charger socket under the dashboard on passenger side: feel under the dash near the back of footwell nearer to the centre of car (opposite side to steering wheel). Useful for a USB charger cable that you can keep out the way in the net in the footwell, rather than clogging up you cup tray... or a permanent cable for 'phone or portable Satnav. Scroll wheel on steering wheel for recent calls: Press TEL twice, and turn scroll wheel for list of names/number you have called on dashboard instrument mini-screen (This of course works for changing radio stations and songs as well, which is documented).

The DOT has to be option related. I do not have it. I am sure BMW does not have half the dashboards showing up with a sensor of some kind for no rhyme or reason

from what i remember reading, residual heat function allows you to keep the cabin warm for about 15mins even with the engine turned off. i think you have to max out the fan to make use of the function.
