For All You That Has The M5 Diffuser
Before i make the decision to do the m5 diffuser conversion, I would like to ask all of you guys who have done the conversion, what steps are required to attach the m5 diffuser, is it a direct bolt on or will extra work need to be done? I have the 535 msport.
Thank you kindly! |

M5 Diffuser for M-Package
Hi you don't need any additional work to make a conversion for the M5 Diffuser. I have also the 535d with M-Sport and also the M5 Diffuser. So it look awesome.
But my new Problem is to look for a new Exhaust that fits in it :/ |

Yes. The M-sport Bumper is the same as the M5 bumper

just wanted to chime in a bit as I found out about the needed changes to fit the diffuser AFTER I ordered it.
I have a thread in the exhaust section all about it. But essentially the top of the diffuser is a direct fit and will clip right into the bumper. However, once you remove your stock one you'll notice whats called the adapter plate which also contains all the PDC sensor modules and etc. It is NOT a fit with the M5 diffuser as it is wider than the diffuser will allow. I suppose at some point you could order the OEM M5 part but as of a month ago when I did mine it was not available. So the alternative is trimming the plastic adapter plate down by quite a bit and either working around the sensors or moving them slightly (I did the latter). You will also need to have your exhaust shop work with the exhaust to move it roughly 1-2" inward on each side as the openings are different for the M5. So essentially its a non-direct....direct fit. lmao. But all this being said as long as you're ok with some minor cutting which no one will ever see anyway, then its still a pretty simple upgrade. Just don't expect it to be completely plug and play. Also, be sure to use a reputable shop as always. Happy Modding...PM me if you need any more help

i have the 550i with M sport package and have purchased the OEM M5 rear diffuser and center piece and from all I have seen and been told it is a direct fit from my body shop. But its correct that your exhaust will likely need some slight adjustment to the tips as the outlets for the the OEM quad exhausts on the 550i are slightly different than the M5 alignment wise.

Issues arise. M5 F10 rear fits fine into my Msport bumper. However my chosen exhaust. Eissenman Race will not alight on the passenger side without what looks like some cutting/modifications. Problem is M5 valance openings are too inboard and Eissenman cans too big with not enough room to move/shift to the left inward without cutting hangers and trimming probably both heat shield and/or rear spare tire well. Dayum...decisions..decisions!

Not sure. Sport probably is same size cans just different set up internally. Problem is the size of the cans and trying to get them to align to the M5 rear valance. Were made and designed for the M-Sport rear diffuser NOT the M5 valence which has more inboard tips by about 1-2". Problem becomes underneath the car the bodywork/frame setup just doesn't leave enough much room to move things around without major modifications to the frame/work (i.e. cutting into the rear wheel well/sub frame) to shave out about 2-3" of space and then replace the heat shield. I could likely get a good CF rear diffuser from Vorsteiner for that cost.

Yes the Eissenman Race Cans are huge. Not sure if they are less in wt than the factory ones but definitely do make up for it in sound and look!
Yes.. you could fit them but you would need to basically cut into the rear wheel well and frame about 2-5" to get enough space to shift the passenger side can over enough to allow the passenger side tips to clear. OEM M-sport rear fits perfect and sounds great!

Reading this thread leaves me scratching my head. The M5 diffuser isn't designed for any other car - just the M5. Why go through all the trouble of physically modifying your car for a piece of plastic? Why not find another diffuser instead that's actually designed for the car you own?

http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...catalogid=4462 From the bumper down including the attatchment points its a direct fit and add to it the fact that its an OEM and less costlier option that has benefits and makes it attractive. Most other difusers are CF and cost well over $1k out there that I've seen (Vorsteiner, 3D Design, etc) so compared to $300 for an F10 M5 OEM part you can see the trend. Of course there have been some to take this to the next level and do an entire M5 retrofit to make their cars look like M5's (I've seen your posts and others on that already!) and that's a whole different topic which I am not trying to re-start or get into. If one decides to do that..its their business and $$$ although I can see the logic in that it give the appearance of what it is NOT especially when the car is de-badged! However I the M5 rear valence is an attractive option which looks good when added to an F10 5 series properly! I just don't wouldn't go through hell and high water to add one to my car IF it wasn't a direct fit or easily done. You can see my upgrade post to see what I mean here in that respect. (http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthre...8#post13039198) But too each his own...wish the market would come up with more options for those out there and appropriately costed ones for folks seeking to individualize their cars cause after all it is that...individual preferences driving most of this as well as love for the brand hopefully!

I guess my point is that once you pay for parts, paint, and then have an exhaust shop modify things you're probably close to the cost of a CF piece or otherwise. You also run the risk of warranty issues. My personal opinion is that the diffuser is the one thing I don't like about the M5. I ended up painting mine to give the car some contrast like my old 550 F10 with the M Sport package. However I just bought a carbon diffuser from Seibon that I can't wait to mount.
