M5 rear diffuser

I bought the rear diffuser for my M-sport, and I'm wondering if anyone knows what exhausts work with it? I have contemplated Dinan and Eisenmann at this point, or removing the trapezoid tips and putting on stainless quads like others have. Before I paint these pieces, does anyone know what exactly works?

It's clear from holding it up to the existing, the trapezoidals won't fit.

Scott...yes you will need to change out your tips IF you plan on mounting the M5 rear diffuser. All of the available options Dinan, Eissenman, and Meistershaft, and others (Remus has a setup also I think) make great Quad options for the F10...all depends on your taste and sound/hearing tolerances. However from what I've been told/seen all require slight modifications to fit the F10 M5 rear diffuser. This is because the outlets line up slightly off form the OEM setup (both M Sport and otherwise). Those who have done it say it can be done okay and easily enough for experienced shops it just requires a little more planning and re-routing/modification to your exhaust install to make it work.

Also from what I've been told and found out from my body shop/tuner the rear of the M5 and the 550i are the same IF the non M car has the OEM M Sports kit. Otherwise the non M Sports kit cars use a slightly different rear bumper. Any F10 can be refitted with the M5 rear diffuser it just will take more $$ for a non M Sport car.

My car is currently being done now and I pick it up next week so if you want check out my post then to get an idea of the setup and details.

Thanks for the reply, please keep us posted! What exhaust did you choose to go with? My car is an M-sport, so that should make it a little easier, according to your post. Guess I'll have it painted and get the process started.

I wonder if the two aren't mutually exclusive or if the welder wasn't properly grounded at the time and shorted something out?

well when you think about it, the m5 diffuser is made for the m5 and the m5 exhaust. It does fit the m sport bumpers of the 535 and 550 but the exhaust setup has to be modified to fit the m5 diffuser.

I was more asking about your trunk opening problem as a result of the new diffuser...doesn't seem like the diffuser itself could cause that issue per se.

Oh that problem? The trunk issue, I'm going to have Ltbmw work on it since they installed it.

That is because the sensor for the comfort access is somewhere mounted behind the rear bumper and when the retrofit of the M5 rear diffuser is done it may interfere with the mounting points on the sensor. Search the forums as I have come across another member who had that problem. Sensor just needs to be moved as it obviously is mounted in a different place or manner in the M5 vs the non-M cars (even the ones with the M sport package I think). As my easy comfort trunk opener doesn't really open all that easy and reliably I am okay if my car comes out without that fxn when I get it back honestly. I think I've used it properly maybe 2 times in 2.5 mos of ownership! LOL But my installers are aware of the issue and will try to keep it intact during my retrofit. Will keep you guys posted.

So looks like the Eissenman exhaust fits fine in my 550i. Just not with the M5 F10 rear diffuser. F10 M5 Diffuser tips outlets sit inboard by about 2" and my installer/shop are having major problems because the Eissenman Race exhaust is large and the passenger side just won't align to the outlets. No cutting or adjusting seems to work other than major modifications to the rear body/frame/wheel well. So its back to my OEM M sport diffuser unless I want to now swap out exhaust to something smaller or that definitely fits (OEM M5 cans - that probably would have been less expensive than my Eissenmans!) LOL

More to come later when I get an update in the AM.

There's a reason the M5 diffuser only fits the M5...

Without modification you're not going to fit it. Now that I have my Akrapovic exhaust I might sell my OEM M5 exhaust.

Why couldn't a decent exhaust shop add a bend or so to make it work?

Yes the modification however would be extensive and require body work to the frame...likely cutting/shaving off about 1-2 inches of the rear tire well. I've seen it work for a few but looks like extensive mods were required and none used Eissenman cans for the non-m car. One guy got it to work but used a set of F10 M5 cans he got from an owner and I think Akrapovic tips.
Nice set up but $$$ $1700 for the tips alone!

Problem is NOT the pipes but the size of the Eissenman cans. As you can see they're pretty big and there is just not enough space on the passenger side to shift the cans so that they alight outward to meet the M5 valance openings. These are 550i Eissenman exhausts cans mind you...I'd expect the passenger side tips are probably more properly aligned on the M5 Eissienman exhaust. On the Eissenman exhaust for the 550i I am assuming they are set up to fit the outlet of the M sport valence which is outboard by about 1-2" on the car. (See pics)

Would have to see what exhausts you used (some others have much smaller cans and thus more space for the alignment (Meisterschaft and Supersprint) cause looking at it now...I can see there's no way to make it fit AND get the tips aligned properly in the M5 valance. Even if you cut off the tips...there's not enough room between the muffler and the valance to jig and weld an S pipe to get them properly aligned. And once I cut them then IF it doesn't work then there's no going back/returning them.

So will look for an alternative rear diffuser/valence likely and go with my OEM M Sport install.

Same issue here w/ my Eisenmann Race + M5 Diffuser. Going back to the OEM M-Sport diffuser.

Is there that much of a difference between the Eisenmann 550 exhaust and the M5 model? If there isn't then just see if you can order the M5 mufflers or the M5 system if you're going to use the M5 diffuser.

That is possible however you then will need to move/make some adjustments to your downpipes as well and possible resonators. Also not sure if both have the same pipe diameter. A good shop can do it but at added cost/modifications. I ended up going with a CF Haman rear diffuser instead.

After rereading my post it didn't seem clear that I was talking about when ordering an Eisenmann exhaust; what I was wondering if the M5 spec mufflers could be ordered to fit with an M5 diffuser. Or if an Eisenmann M5 system would fit on an 550 with little or no modifications.
