New Feature - Rear Collision Warning?
Out for a motorway drive today, and left the motorway via an exit ramp at around 60mph, and some clown does the same but races up my ar$e and left his braking too late.... all of a sudden I hear a very loud beeping and the guy backs off frantically....
I don't have the traffic sensors (although have allround parking sensors), so does anyone know if this is standard? It seems it warns you for impact... and the way the guy backed off I wonder if my brake lights were flashing at him (I was NOT braking at the time). Would be great to know if this was an intended safety feature, if so, it worked !

Collision Warning only works to avoid collisions in front of the F10.

and even then, it might be too late. Its only designed to limit the impact rather than prevent a collission in the first place. I've recently posted up a thread about BMW implemenation
see :- http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=785695 It doesn't appear to be the best out there, perhaps the LCI will improve matters? |

Thanks folks (interesting read). Was aware of front collision, but thought this was non-standard unless you order it.
Anyway, I think the interesting/important thing is that my car beeped like crazy when the person raced up my rear-end... it happened... so am happy for that feature whatever it is !

You may have heard the rear parking sensors going off immediately before impact.

If it was a Volvo in your rear, it might be possible, the collision warning is really loud in the Volvo, and yes it does actually work as well, warning, full break, and a "HUD" red strip of warning lights

It was definitely my car.... it came from the dash/above my head (map-light cluster) I recall or could even have been from speakers... nothing showed on screen

So what you're saying is, the guy behind you, travelling at speed in another car, backed off frantically after he heard, from your car, a beep from above your head?
It is more likely that the beep was either unrelated or for some reason your rear PDC sounded. His braking is nothing to do with your car, its to do with the fact he slammed on the brakes too late. How would a loud beep help in any event? A momentary bleep to allow you to kiss your ass goodbye? lol

I suspect he backed off quickly either because he suddenly realised how fast he had gone behind me when he saw my bumper in his face... OR there may have been some automatic brake lights flashing on my car that triggered his sudden reaction... The momentary beep could actually brace you for whiplash, or attempt avoidance tactics to get out his way ![]()
