Luggage space in 5GT
Hello everyone,
We have shortlisted the 5GT as our next potential family hauler.we are a family of three and we have a 2011 MDX serving this purpose . we routinely take 10 hr trips to canada and want a comfortable tourer. My only concern is the boot space compared to the MDX. I have never used the third row seats and thus the only point of concern is the boot space. My other car is a 135i as a daily driver. I was wondering if replacing the SUV with the 5GT would be a risky proposition. |

If not using 3rd row of seat equates to over 1200 litres of luggage space in the MDX according to Acura website, GT has about 550 litres off the top of my head so nowehere near as spacious in boot.
We find the GT great for passenger comfort but when travelling to airport we cannot get all luggage in for 5 of us but suffer it as only twice a year and did not want estate. |

This is the exact situation i am concerned about. We fly international once an year and the SUV comes in handy.Though we are only three the luggage accumulates quite a bit then.I am wondering how the rest of you guys are managing this situation.

Remeber that you can tweek the space by moving the rear seats up a bit and changing the position of the trunk wall. That and taking out the deck lid makes for quite a bit of room.
Not that it is MDX room, but quite a lot indeed. FWIW DLM |

I made a week long trip with three adult women and myself...it was tight, but we fit a lot in the trunk. Given the airlines size and baggage limitations, it should fit 4 decent sized bags and a few smaller ones. With three, keep in mind that the seats fold 40-20-40, and that can open up a lot of additional storage space as well.

The cargo issue is one of the things that's attracting me to the GT more than others. Without going to a truck or full-sized SUV, it already holds far more than any normal sedan. But I'm really liking how, inc crunch situations, you can either fold down one of the seats, move up the rear seats, or a combination to get even more cargo.

The seats are divided 40-20-40, and you can fold any combination down. If you don't need to store the removeable deck cover underneath the floor, you have a pretty fair amount of storage underneath the floor, too.

This is interesting.I wonder if GT is geared more for people who want a larger/functional sedan[SEDAN to GT] than for someone who want a smaller/sedanish SUV[SUV to GT].
I am looking to replace the SUV with the GT.Though we have a family of three, Frequent 10 hr trips to visit family necessitate quite a decent cargo space. I am going to pack my SUV with empty suitcases and take it to the showroom before i pull the trigger on the GT. |

There are some tricks to getting a little more space (discussed in the manual, but who reads that?!).
The divider between the trunk and the cabin can be released, making it more vertical which allows square edged things fit further back. If you don't need as much legroom for the rear, you can slide the seats forward some, and the divider actually can go more vertical. This does provide an opening behind the seats into the trunk, but it's not big, and the vehicle is pretty quiet, so there's no significant sound level impact (it is there, but small). And, as already said, there is room beneath the floor for a bunch of smaller items. I took a week-long trip with three adult women (you may understand how they pack!), and we did make the trip comfortably. Since it was to a wedding, there were presents there as well along with a bridesmaid's dress. |
