I tested all combinations on my imperial blue 535i..and finally settled with Chrome/Black

Black/Black

Black/Chrome

I have black sapphire. I went with chrome inside black surrounds. IMO black on black on black sapphire is too much.

If M sport, I'd go black on black. If SE I'd pick a more OEM colouring.

I think this post is missing one more combo. My 550 has silver vertical lines and chrome around it, so i am hoping to paint chrome part in black and leave aluminum/silver part as it is!
