Help! Marder!

Had a 'Drivetrain malfunction' warning the other day. Inspected under the hood and it looks like a marder chewed the coating of some wiring and tubing, as well as some of the foam insulation. WTF!?!?!?!?

Have done some research over the years, but haven't found anything really useful.

Suggestions?

I had to google marder... I'd say get your dealer check the wirings, you don't want shorts and sparks flying under your hood..

Animals LOVE wires. My dad has had to replace the wiring harness on his Yukon cruise control at least 3 times for that nuisance. And they seem to always pick the same wires...

Is there no poison for this animal that could be used in trays around the engine bay perhaps?

I hate martyrs...but I also hate marders too. I was told they hate chili pepper so I've sprinkled it around the engine bay in previous vehicles.

We had marders chew through the turbo line on our Volvo V50 (had to pull the entire engine to replace the line...450 Euro later...) and ate the engine lining of both the V50 and our V70. After placing generous amount of moth balls under the hood of both cars we've had no further issue.

I ended up purchasing the electronic frequency emitter and hooked it up to the battery. I also have a V70R, and will be doing the same to it and my Z3.

In Europe, they're not only a nuisance regarding damaging cars by chewing on rubber parts: Last weekend, one of them managed to interrupt a Swiss premier league soccer/football game. See video:
The first player in white who caught it got seriously bitten in the finger. The marten managed to escape again, the goalkeeper who caught it again later was much better protected thanks to his gloves.

One of the best marten protections for cars is... an enclosed garage.
