Cleaning M-Sport Black Exhaust Tips

What is everyone using to clean the black painted M-Sport exhaust tips with? I had a bit of the exhaust soot that was caked on at the bottom of the tip which normal washing did not remove. On previous cars w/ stainless/aluminum tips I used a metal polish which worked great. On these I tried a little bit of a very mild polish (Zaino ZPC) and it almost looks like the black paint is starting to come off as I can see a metallic sheen starting to come through. This still didn't completely get off the exhaust soot

Anyone else come across this?

This is why painting an exhaust tip is a dumb idea in my opinion. It should be electro-plated with Black Chrome. Paint just doesn't have a strong enough bond.

Your best bet is to clay it.
