Michelin PSS vs. Hankook V12??
I'm on the fence with which tires to get. I got the rep M5 rims and need to get some 20" tires. Any feedback from forum members will be appreciated. The price difference is almost double ($1400 vs. $700). I hear lots of great things about the PSS but the Hankook also have very good ratings. For a 60K car, is it worth saving $700 if the ride quality is at hand?

I would only get spendy on tires if I track the car competitively. For a dd I think ventus v12s are more than adequate. Why spend so much on something that must be replaced every 2-3yrs?
I'm getting the hankooks installed on my new wheels as we speak. Great overall summer tires and they do well in wet conditions. I wouldn't want to pay double for 10% better performance. |

The PSS are amazing. The V12 are equally so, for the price. I will say the PSS last quite a bit longer in my experience ( no exact number) but for someone who has used both, I say go for the V12. Save the money for another mod.

I've never like the cheaper tires (falken fk452, hankook ventus V12, etc) after I drive them. If you actually drive them back to back with a better tire you'll notice a huge difference.
While I don't believe in spending the crazy extra dough for PSS, I do think the 'mid-tier' tires such as the continental extremecontact DW or the bridgestone potenza S-04 are worth the few extra dollars. they're only $30 ~ 40 more per tire than the hankook/Falken and is much, much better in every way. |

Having owned both each twice on two different cars, the only reason to get the hankooks is price. The PSS crush them in every single way, except for treadwear which they're close to even.

Yes, PSS is a better tire hands down. Why $1400 got my 20s for $300 each out the door

Never save money on tyre, tyre is the base of all your mods, no matter how good your suspension, brake or aerodynamic, u need the tyre to grip the ground, so never save money on tyre, always get the best tyre, pilot super sport is so far the best street tyre(dry and wet) IMO, I have pss on my e60, f10, e46m3csl, 1m, 997gt3rs, I run them all on street and they are so good in both rain and wet, and on my e60 i had like 60000km+on it, and it is still fine.
You will regret if you decided to save money on tyre |

The way i see it sometimes that 1" more stopping distance needed by a cheaper tire could end up costing you way more than the price difference between the two. I always get the best when it comes to tires especially now with my daughter in the car. Alan

In the last edition of Auto Bild Sportscars they do a thorough test of some summer tires (255/40R19 F and 285/35R10 R).
They tested:
Here are the results in each test: Handling - Dry Michelin 113,89km/h Continental 112,77km/h Hankook 112,44km/h Bridgestone 110,68km/h Goodyear 110,47km/h Falken 109,40km/h Handling - Wet Goodyear 81,4km/h Continental 80,5km/h Hankook 79,3km/h Bridgestone 77,8km/h Michelin 76,2km/h Falken 75,2km/h Braking - Dry Hankook 36m Bridgestone 36,3m Continental 36,6m Goodyear 36,9m Michelin 37,7m Falken 39,8m Braking - Wet Goodyear 42,8m Hankook 43,3m Michelin 44,7m Continental 45m Bridgestone 45,2m Falken 48,8m Overall score

Thats the only review that i've seen where the PSS scored so badly. How about the countless of other reviews that praises the tire as being the best in class? To me there is a reason why so many high end cars comes with PSS and not Hankooks

Regardless of it's performance relative to a PSS, how would it be to market a M5 with a Hankook tire? Doesn't sound as good as a M5 on Michelin PSS does it? I haven't researched, but perhaps the other brands have newer designs than the PSS in that test? Tire tech moves forward and the PSS is a few years old now... |
