For those who did G30 brake upgrade, how was pedal feel relative to stock? And have any if you been able to test the brakes’ fade resistance via road course or even auto-x?

Mine is rock solid. You do need to bleed it electronically via ISTA or scan tool. Stops better than stock for me. I do not autox so I can’t say on brake fade but stock for stock, it should be better. Larger rotor is always better but it may vary depending on if you use OEM or aftermarket rotor. Pad matters as well. So far OEM seems to be the better option but it produces a ton of dust

Hit the track today and the upgraded brakes were great. Never had any issue with brake fade and I could get deep into the brake pedal with confidence. For less than 1k, G series brakes are a no brainer if you plan on tracking the car.

That’s awesome. What pads did you run? Got any videos?

Will post one when I stitch it together later today. I ran the OE brembo semi-met pads

I'm going to post the entire session on youtube unlisted. It's about an hour long (and 60gigs since it's from my 4k dashcam lol) so it's taking a bit to upload.

Hello fellow enthusiasts,
I've been closely following this thread for a few months now, and a set of G30 (348x30) front calipers has recently become available at an attractive price in my local area. My vehicle is an F10 520i on Breyton GTS 19" rims, and the build of the 520i is quite similar to the 528i in Western countries. I've observed that many members who upgraded to G30 calipers are using the 374 rotor, but there's limited information on the 348 rotor that comes with these calipers. I've identified two variations for the 348 rotor:
Caliper housing left: 34116883483 Caliper housing right: 34116883484 Brake disc (348x30): 34116860909
Brake caliper housing blue left: 34116891273 Brake caliper housing blue right: 34116891274 Brake disc left (348X36): can be replaced with 760i rotors as mentioned earlier in this thread so no trimming of pads is required. Variation 1 is the one available for sale so my questions regarding Variation 1 are:
Looking forward to your insights and expertise. Last edited by irvyeo; 01-13-2024 at 04:05 AM.. |

m performance brakes are installed on a 374 disc, you need adapters for F10, such as spacers for calipers... they brake better than brakes from F01 with 1 piston, but cannot compare with 6 piston ones |

Four piston Cals are nice for budget, and a daily drive with a good rotors like Poweestop slotted and drilled and Ecs ss lines. More pistons more money and at that second ask yourself do I need 8pistons? I think I'm was at $1200 for everything. back just got ss lines and rotors. And I only had to trim the inside pad on the fronts.

More pistons doesn’t equal better braking for a street car. The more pistons you have the smaller they are to keep the same overall clamping force on the pads.
Bigger calipers with more pistons exist so the pads can be larger and the force can be evenly distributed over the larger pads. Offsetting the clamping force to the trailing end of the pad with different piston sizes can also help mitigate tapered pad wear. The effective rotor diameter and the brake pad coefficient of friction have much more to do with the stopping power of the brakes. Increased rotor mass and larger pad area is for increased repetitive stopping power, as there’s more mass to absorb and more surface area to reject heat. Stock brakes with aggressive pads will have far more stopping power than my upgraded brakes, but my larger brakes will stop consistently more times without overheating. 90% of the brake upgrade was cosmetic, for me anyway. |

if anyone needs some cheap F10 M5 rear calipers, I have some that are surplus to requirements from a set of brakes I bought recently - I only wanted / needed the fronts so have the rears on eBay.

The caliper itself is the same as the 550, but the M5 bracket positions the caliper outboard to use the larger 370mm rear rotor from the F01 750/760. The 550 bracket will obviously allow the use of the slightly smaller 550 rotor. FYI, see the chart I posted earlier in this thread to make sure your rear brake setup works with your front brake setup… you don’t want an overly rear-biased braking system on a street car. |

On ebay listed with the global shipping programme, so easy international shipping. Putting the link here incase they are any good for someone to use as part of the brake upgrades discussed here! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/285728939...mis&media=COPY In the case of the front calipers, no issues as they were used on my F31 - I’m running them with custom brackets and 400mm F87 M2 Comp discs and on the rear I am running F87 4 piston / 380mm rear set. Brake pedal feel is like stock and the performance is epic. |

535i to Alpina D5 Conversion
So from reading the above posts one might be able to use the F01 Alpina B7 brakes front and rear on a 2012 BMW 535i...??? for context I'm interested in building out my F10 535i into a Alpina D5. I say D5 only because its the diesel version of the N55 3.0L I6 Twin turbo. I'm also trying to gather if this is financially realistic or if I should just look into importing a F10 Alpina D/B 5... I'm also not converting my N55 to diesel but I want to convert the rest of the car as close to an Alpina D5 as possible. Any Info is greatly appreciated!
