OMG! Friend and family panicked when I told them I bought a used 528ix

Happen to see a few friends today, and all three thought I was nuts to buy a used BMW / 528ix ..
Everyone is scaring me.. telling me thee cars are a nightmare..

I look around my neighborhood, and you cant walk down any street without seeing a bunch of BMW's in driveways.

What's the story?

What are the known major issues / concerns I should address immediately with buying this car with 47k miles
(2015 528ix)?

2015 should be OK. Earlier years had timing chain tensioner failures.

If you DIY then maintenance can be reasonable.
Repairs can be expensive.
I would think it would be similar to the jag.

Thanks...
This was a very uncharacteristic impulse buy on my part.. and as a result I've been having a little buyer's remorse..
It's a beautiful car and well maintained, but should have gotten a bit more educated beforehand.
I would have shopped for a 535 / 550
I have concerns about the n20 engine.

In my opinion, the 535i is the safest bet as the car ages in terms of reliability. BMW is known for their silky smooth inline 6 cylinder powerplants. Of the engine variants offered on the F10 5 series, it appears the N55 in the 535 is the one with the least issues. Hopefully you will be fine with your N20. If you can afford it and planning on holding onto the car for a while, an extended warranty isn't a bad idea. Or you can do like me and just set that warranty money aside in case you need it for repairs. Always a gamble, but I was willing to take that chance with my N55.

First full day out.. I took the time to familiarize myself with the Sport, comfort and ECO modes.
Found myself very happy with the "old geezer" - type feel of ECO mode.. It made me relax and enjoy a soft ride...
HOWEVER, on the way home I went with sports mode and it was an entirely different car.. Truly amazing difference handling and comfort..

I have to be honest.. That N20 has balls when you need it and will be just fine.

BMW's driving modes really change the feel of the cars, unlike some.
Remember, most people don't have much trouble with their cars -- the silent ones...

So very true...
I love the car... Does everything I expect it to do, and is a pleasure to drive.
will invest in a service warranty plan soon and call it a day...
It's pretty inevitable that the warranty will pay for itself over the time of ownership

The car's a keeper... even more so since it's paid for.. lol

Please dont worry about your car and just drive it. I have the 2012 528i and its exactly what I expected it to me. A solid car! And after 60k miles I have no intention of parting with it for another 6 years. Still drives tight and like new.
