Calling All 520d Owners
I now have my reprogrammed Spider Tuning Box.
However!! When I take off the engine cover you cannot get to the common rail sensor, due to sound proofing etc on the top of the engine. Is there a simple way that it all just clicks off thus revealing the actual top of the engine? This is where the sensor is but for the life of me I cannot find out how to get to it? Anybody?? Many thanks |

What are your thoughts on the tuning box? I had a previous car ECU remapped by Superchips and noticed that it became alot more 'drivable' (better spread of torgue/power across rev range) but not perhaps the 'kick' I was expecting? I am looking at a tuning box solution as I am a bit more concerned about a remap being picked up by dealers at service etc. How easy was it to fit?

Well much the same as your previous experience. No kick but noticeable power increase, very smooth delivery. On my e90 was much the same.
In terms of fitting few extra parts to unclip and took me a while to find position. It's not straight forward!! |

hello,
so where exactly is the common rail sensor? Is it under the air filter or more towards the front end. All the clips i managed to find had more than the 3 the diesel tuning box i have purchased has. |

Fitting a tuning box to 520d 2011
Hi
Can anyone help - how do I access the common rail sensor to add a tuning box. There is a large air box attached to the top of the engine and I can't see how to remove it. Now getting frustrated. Cheers |

Have you done it yet? It's easy when you have done it once. Do you need pictures?

Steps:
1. Grab the engine cover firmly from the front and pull it up (up and towards the windscreen) until it detaches. Make sure you grab it from both sides. 2. Next is the air filter. To remove it you have to detach the two air intakes from both sides. There are two latches you have to detach for each one. Be careful with the one one the left as it's pretty fragile (broke mine). You can use a flat tip screwdriver. Once the latches are detached you have to pull each of the intakes firmly until it disconnects from the air filter - this requires a good pull! After the intakes are out you just have to pull the filter up and you're done. 3. Next is the sound proofing sheet - you just lift it that up - make sure you note down its position. 4. Finally there is a rubber cover covering the common rail which you don't have to fully remove - just peel it back so that you expose the common rail and the plug. 5. Unplug and install your box's connector as instructed. Re-attach in reverse order. Make sure your box does not touch hot engine parts, is firmly secured and the conduits are kept clear of any moving parts (e.g. belts). You may be tempted to leave the box under the sound proofing of the engine - but don't - too much vibration and heat. Make sure it's properly fastened. Hope this helps. Took me 30 mins to figure it out the hard way ;-) Last edited by Breach; 06-20-2011 at 04:22 AM.. |

It was awful with the standard setting so I tried to sell it. That didn't work so I pulled it apart and played around with the setting and now it's actually worth having. Helps with the low down lag and increases the push up high. Considerably.
