I find all this sport, sport+ just strange.
On my car with sports automatic i have the following modes:
Eco
Comfort
Sport
Sport+

If I have any other mode than Comfort mode enabled, and I disable ESP, it will return to Comfort mode. What is the reasoning behind this?
Is Comfort mode and gear lever to S same as Sport+?
I also can't understand why Sport and Sport+ allows the car to turn off the engine.
Only way of stopping it it is Sport mode on the gear box.

Who gets SPORT+ and COMFORT + modes on their cars? Does this come with the M Sport package only?

And what is the difference between SPORT and SPORT + modes?

As I understand it COMFORT+ only comes with the active dampers.
SPORT+ is the same as SPORT but some of the "safety" features disabled so you can spin the wheels if you want!!
I have SPORT+ on my M Sport but not the COMFORT+

I have Variable Damper Control + Sport Automatic Transmission on my 2012 SE and I have the following five drive modes:
- Eco Pro
- Comfort+
- Comfort
- Sport
- Sport+

As eskdale wrote, Sport+ restricts the DSC.

I don't have Sport+, but as I understand it, I could mimic SPORT+ by changing to SPORT mode and turning off DSC?

I'll try it but what you say makes sense. Otherwise, we would all have SPORT+ for free...

If you use M mode and shift in a similar pattern as the DS ie. 3300+ rpm, it still uses less fuel then if you leave it in DS. Also if you feather your peddle so that the car will shift at 3000 rpm, it still consume a bit more fuel.

Just my observation from several different generation of 5 series.

I have driven my new 535i for 3 days now. Really hate the start/stop auto stop function. Restart of the car is not that seamless and it is a pain to feel the car restart even at a stop sign!!! Really need to find a way to disable it permanently!!!

Sport+ is not the same as sport with the dsc off. In sport+ its restricted. So it will let you play, but will help out when you start to slide. If you push the dsc button and keep it inn for a few seconds, you can turn it completely off. It's a big difference.

The feature is flawed, and you are constantly thinking about how to prevent stop: Should I be in D, DS, Push the brake in hard, disable the feature with the button? So many ways to avoid stopping that it is annoying. You will get used to it in a month or two and figure out which of the intervention options to use when, but its still forcing you to change the way you drive.

I actually think the feature is great, but the execution sucks. I appreciate the car stopping at long traffic lights, but do not like when it stops at a stop sign, or when I am waiting to turn, in stop and go traffic, or when I am car number 8 at a stop sign creeping forward slowly. As with all new technologies, this one will get perfected over time as well. We are just the early (forced) adopters. On the other hand, the mpg on my F10 seems to get better with every tank. I am going to get close to 430 miles on this tank with very mixed freeway/local road/stop and go driving. Could never get this with my e46 under the same conditions

Great thread. Learned a lot about this feature so i'll be ready when i get my F10.

I can't imagine myself liking this though. Every bmw i've own makes a rumble when it starts up so I can't imagine feeling that over and over again everytime the car stops.

Is there a certain threshold that you have to be stopped for X seconds before the motor turns off? My concern is that we have freeway entrances here that basically requires you to almost launch yourself into high speed traffic quickly and sometimes you have to crawl to it if there are other cars doing the same. It would be pretty stupid if the car would turn off the motor 10x before its my turn to merge and just to have a slight delay when i need full power immediately.

The car pretty much shuts off a second after stop. However, you have less than one second to give the brake pedal a hard push to turn the feature off. In the scenario you describe, I would be DS anyway. you will learn how to avoid and use it efficiently, but its still a pain because you have to always think about it and decide what to do

I thought the the stop/start didn't switch the engine off if you are indicating or the wheels are turned as it knows that you may need to pull out in a hurry.

I am still waiting for my delivery so can't confirm this but please let me know your experiences.

It doesn't turn off the engine if the wheel is turned, but more often than not, when I am waiting to turn, my wheel isn't turned yet.

I actually wish the feature would be disabled if I had my turn signal (indicator) on, that would be cool,

WHY can't it be defaulted to OFF as in my friends Porsche ?? You have to turn it off EVERY TIME you get in the car ! It actually turned off the other day while I was trying to parallel park.

HATE IT !
