Life of stock struts/shocks 2011 535 xdrive
Hi All, new member here. been lurking on the forums but finally signed up.
Does anyone know what the life expectance of the stock struts and shocks are on this car? Has anyone gone through replacements yet? I drive an 2011 535i xdrive and just curious since my factory warranty is coming to an end in 100 miles. I am wondering if the dealer will offer some type of pre inspection since the factory warranty basically covers everything. Good news is my CPO kicks in but I know suspension items are excluded… I remember coming from my E39 days, those struts would fail around 50k and I ended up replacing them with Bilsteins. Any other things I should request before my Factory W is up>? Thanks! |

My experience with past BMWs is that they get pretty weak around 50k miles - same as your experience. My F10 only has 8k miles on it, and it's the dynamic dampers, so I don't have a data point on this yet. But I'd probably suggest that if it's a passive setup, I'd expect 50k would be a good mark to consider replacement. Clearly it can go longer, but the ride IMHO suffers - not nearly as tight/firm.
