I believe what Marksman63 is saying is that people buy the 550i for the V8 450hp engine first and MPG second. Anyone concerned with MPG needs to go with the 535i or the 535d with higher MPG engines. But, for 2014, the 535i and the 550i both get 24 MPG due to the tweaked V8 engine in the 550i. Therefore, for 2014, the major difference between the 535i and the 550i is the V6 verses the V8 and the price ($8,800).

The 2015 535i will get a tweaked V6 engine (rumor) that will up the MPG to 28 and provide 335hp (up from 300hp in the 2014).

As far as MSRP, I’m not hearing of discounts on any 2014s besides the $1,000 event discount and the $750 BMW previous owner discount since they can only be ordered at this time and the 2013s are still on the lots. There is no reason for BMW to discount the 2014s at this time.

My experience for the 1900 miles I have on her so far is 14.5 to 15.7 city w/ light highway. Pure highway in town feathering the throttle I can get 20-22.

Well, I’ve heard over and over 24 MPG but now you made me second-guess myself. So, I pulled data directly from the BMW Media Information document and the numbers actually look better then 24 MPG. Now, please feel free to shoot holes in this if you see anything that I might have done wrong. I think all of us would like to get to the correct numbers but in the end (as stated several times in this thread), it really depends on how you drive.

Look on page 26 and 27 in the BMW Media Information document (provided the link to the doc in the forum below). The 535i and 550i are compared side-by-side. The Fuel Consumption sections show how close the 2 are with the new 550i engine. But, notice the difference based in tire size. You need to compare both models with the 18’ tires that are not side-by-side.

I included a chart below from the BMW Media Information that I converted for ltr/ 100km to MPG. According to the chart, it’s showing 27.35 combined average!

I don’t have the doc for the 2013 550i but the window data on every 550i at my dealership stated 20 MPG average.

Please let me know your thoughts because if the numbers look correct I’m extremely impressed with a V8 averaging 27+ MPG

18ish city only, 20-22 combined, and 24-27 with straight highway cruising drives. Jacksonville to Universal Orlando.... 22-26 MPG depending on how much traffic to navigate through. Zoom Zoom!

Extra urban being highway? That MPG (if US and not British) isn't doable in a 550 (let alone 535) unless you're hyper-miling behind an 18 wheeler, and even then - no way.
