PROBLEM SOLVED!!... If your F10 has hesitation or jerks at 0-10 mph
Hi all,
I've been suffering from this hesitation and jerking problem since I got my F10 three months ago. Well, today i stumbled upon a solution in this thread below. I tried it right away, and I have to admit, the accelerator is much smoother now from stop. And I'm a much happier F10 owner now than I was yesterday. Steps... 1) hit start button once to turn on power (Don't start the engine) 2) then press the accelerator down to the floor for 5 sec 3) then hit start button once to turn off power 4) then remove foot from accelerator 5) then waite for 2 minutes 4) then start the engine like normal and try it out! Good luck! UPDATED ON (Aug. 3. 2011): This turned out to be a temporary solution that would last for about a week. A permanent solution is said to be in the latest software by BMW - refer to (SIB 12 09 11) Last edited by DuneMan; 08-03-2011 at 03:26 AM.. |

Thanks a lot; worked like a charm)) After my my E60, I had been very upset with my F10's throttle responses; now, applying the procedure, the car is as it should be. But it makes me really wonder; why did they deliver the car with that program; with only a very much cared 3000 km on the clock, obviously the car could not have adopted my driving style yet; so that was the initial program; strange for BMW.

Do you have to do it everytime you start the car?

From what I read about this solution is that it resets the transmission software. The technical term is TBA reset: "Throttle Body Adaptation" reset. It's supposed to be Resetting the Adaptive Driver Memory for the transmission. Now what i can't understand is that we're talking about new cars here, that should not have any Throttle memory yet. So, I can understand this TBA reset being done for used cars, but not for new cars. Anyway, it works now… |

Nope. but you're raising a good point here... and that is if this solution is temp or permanent? The answer is I'm not sure. but, from what I read, it didn't sound like a workaround solution. It sounded like a feature built into BMWs. I guess I'd have to chat about it with my dealer later on when I get a chance. |

It might be that the few times the car was driven to load on trucks, ships and onto the lot it was driven roughly enough that that is what the SW thinks is normal as that is the only baseline it has had to learn from.

I've not heard of the procedure solving any gearbox issues, long term. Think about it, BMW techs' would be doing it just to get folks off their backs. HighlandPete |

I don't yet have any long term feedback from people that have done this reset... so, i guess i'll be monitoring my car's situation closely to see if the smoothness eventually wears out ... in which case the whole purpose of this reset would be pointless. Also, I do plan on talking to my dealer about it. I heard that some people did a SW update at the dealer, and never had this problem return. |

I met with a Service Manager at my dealership on the same day DuneMan posted. There were no faults recorded on the car and they did the reset before returning the car to me. I was pleased when I later checked the site and was DuneMan's post. I have been complaining for months about the problem. Along with HightlandPete, it makes sense to me the problem will return. Or, at least that over time the problem would have stopped after the car adapted to my style of driving. I now have over 7,000 miles on the car, so it has had plenty of driving time to adapt. In any case, my car is better now and I am crossing my fingers. I will give my dealership credit, they did say that if this did not fix the problem, they would schedule an appointment with the regional service rep. As you all know, this is really diminishing the driving experience of the car. What a shame. Especially since the car does so well above 10 mph.

Thanks for the feedback DChaffins... Yes, I also read today that it did wear off after a while for some (few weeks or so). One guy says he does it every month or so. If that's the case, then I'm not sure this is a real solution to the problem. Also, one guy says his dealer is not aware of such a throttle reset. He says the only update or reset the dealer knows is through the ECU - which adds to the mystery of this fix. |

Not sure what YMMV stands for. Maybe I'm getting a bit old. Anyway, this reset process i posted is pretty common and can be found online in more than one discussion group. Same steps everywhere, expect for the "flooring" time. One says 5 sec One says 25 sec One says 30 sec I tried the 5 sec and it worked so I posted it. 25 sec and 30 sec seemed too long for a reset process to me. But i could be wrong. It could be that some engines need longer time. It could be like a PC reboot where sometimes it takes longer than other times. Just thought you might want to know. |
