BMW is buying back my car!!!!

Just got off the phone with BMW NA and due to my recurrent fuel injector problems they are buying back my car!!!! Not sure what I'm going to get into yet but I am extremely impressed with how BMW handled the situation.

So very happy with the deal. BMW NA has agreed to an equal exchange for a new car. The car has to be a 550 x drive and it has to be identical in options and price. Just placed an order for an Alpine white on Ivory Msport. I figured i'd switch the color combo up. Car should be here in 6-8 weeks. In the meantime I can drive the lemon. Looking forward to my new car in the spring!!!!!!

It's really nice to see they did the RIGHT thing.

Can you share the high level steps you had to take to get them to do the buy back?

nal - I probably haven't been keeping up with the board much here, so I wasn't aware you were having problems. I remember the original post about the injectors right after you got the car (shortly before I got mine if I recall)... wasn't aware this came back to haunt you?

I only have about 1300 miles on my car now, but no issues (knock on wood). I'm surprised they're opting to buy back the car over just injectors - seems like if the injectors were faulty, they'd just replace them and move on?? Can you share some details - or point me to the thread where you did (don't want to make you repeat yourself!).

I simply put in a formal complaint to BMW NA and opened up a case. After the car went into limp mode as I was pulling off the highway I made it very clear that I did not feel comfortable with my particular car. I spent about 20 minutes on the phone with a BMW agent and she took all my information and informed me that they would contact my service manager. After that conversation I actually went into my dealership and sat down with the service manager (due to the recurrent issues we actually now know each other pretty well). Both he and BMW told me they would talk and come up with some options to my problem within 5 business days. In the meantime I did get the car back. Yesterday evening BMW called me and said they were still processing my claim/case and they would call me in the next day or to. Then today I got a call telling me BMW was buying back my car with some stipulations. They said I should deal with my dealership from this point on. The deal that was made with BMW NA and my dealership was they would buy back the car and replace it with the identical car (option wise) brand new. An addendum is to be added to the lease switching out the VIN number. The terms and length of the lease remain the same. My dealership had the option to either find me the same car or order me one. I decided to have them order it so I could get the exact color combo that I originally wanted.
All worked out well

Of note I do think that they look at all of these claims on a case to case basis. My wife an I are both in our early 30's and have owned a handful of BMWs. Looking at our history and age they probably realized that if they didn't make me happy they were going to loose a long term customer with the potential to buy many more cars in the future . Now i'm probably hooked for life. Smart move BMW

I posted a an angry rant after my car went into limp mode about 8 days ago.
http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=950455

Overall a total of 9 days in the shop for two different fuel injector issues. I really think my car is a just a lemon as they do exist in every brand. I also had some major fuel mileage issues, which I think may be related to the fuel injectors, and have been averaging under 13 mpg with relatively conservative driving. Based on this forum and a handful of friends and colleagues who have the same car or same I feel that this was a fluke and my new car will be perfect.

Best of luck with it, and I'm glad they did the right thing - rather easily, I may add, since I've heard plenty of other stories where BMW didn't buy back cars under much more extreme and repetitive circumstances! I wonder what's going on there - the service manager must have painted a pretty dire picture to BMW, I think, to the point where they believed there wasn't a simple fix (arms up in the air in other words).

White with Ivory interior - love to see some pics when you get it! Congratulations on it all working out! BTW - what dealer do you go to? I'm in Fairfield County, too - my dealer is Ridgefield BMW.

I live in Fairfield and I used BMW of bridgeport. It's my understanding that the same family owns both Bridgeport and Ridgefield. Impressed so far with how my problems were handled. When I had the second incident not only was the car flat bedded away within 45 minutes but a new 3-series was dropped off for me at the site of the break down.

Just a FYI. BMW is doing what is known as a substitution of collateral. All stays the same with your lease except the VIN gets updated.

I am not spending a dime. I am currently in my 4th month of the lease. My mileage now gets set back to 0. I make the remaining 32 payments as is. BMW NA is paying for all fees. It's a no loose situation for me. Yes the dealership probably makes out well because in effect they sold me another car but who cares. I'm not paying for it. Who wouldn't take a new identical car during the lease agreement ?

And yes it is a buy back. BMW NA is buying the car from BMW financial and it no longer has any ties to me.
