Engine fan goes to high speed when turned heat on in climae control

I just experienced when I turn heat on in climate control, the engine fan goes to high speed (high and normal and high and normal...)

the engine oil and coolant temperature are low (around 90 Celsius degree ) at the time.

After I turned heat off, or set interior temperature to 16 Celsius degree (cold air), or the engine oil went up to 120 Celsius degree, the engine fan went to normal speed (no loud sounds heard).

It seems only happens in cold weather.

Any help for this?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like the final stage resistor went bad. Haven't really heard about this problem in F10's, but this symptom was common in older BMW's and the solution was replacing a part called the final stage resistor. Used to cost about $100 and was a pretty straightforward fix. Sorry I can't be of more help, but I am sure someone else will chime in.

But the radiator fan goes to high speed, not the blower fan. Is it still the problem of final stage resistor?

Oh sorry, I misread. Not sure then.

My 2014 F10 528i does this - but I don't have the heat on - but the air con is on.

It sounds like the bloody thing is trying to take off.

Have you fixed the issue?

Test if it's actually the air conditioning compressor being on that causes the issue. Use the snowflake button to test but leave the "heat" on.

If the problem follows that then have your AC system checked. Might be a state of charge or sensor problem. In my past experience certain pressure conditions will cause the engine fan to go to high speeds regardless of temperatures.

It's either the water pump or thermostat problem. Had the same issue and BMW replaced the water pump. The fan noise is back to normal now.
