All the snap in section offers is charge for the iPhone and connection to the external aerial.
The USB section is the bit that allows the iPod section to be used via the idrive. The USB also charges the phone at the same time. So really this is all you need. You really don't need the snap in cradle.

I believe this is only on 2011 models. The factory restarts week 35 for 2011 build. Maybe you might be able to get a s/w update from stealer.

I would imagine that this would be a hardware upgrade not just a software as BMW are moving to using the standard iPod cable and not the y cable they currently use. To me that sounds like a different wiring for the USB

I didn't get a choice I was told to accept week 40 build slot. Its good that they have gone away from non standard set up with the Y cable.

I mean how hard was it to do that in the first place. Even Kia's have this as standard.

They've made the graphics bigger on the 2011 build models.

The LCD section of the new display is larger. Very Similar to the 7 series.

I think you will find they are now using the same LCD in the new F10.

Again this is for the 5 GT not the standard 5 series.

That is my understanding as well. That is for 5GT with navigation not for F10.

It might be you. Factory normally restarts week 35/36. So if your car is built week 37 it will take about three weeks from factory to the Immingham then onto your stealer. I know it won't be mine - I just hope Ocktoberfest isn't too rowdy when they build mine in week 40.

I saw it on the "updates PDF" as well where all F10s are getting the wider display.

EDIT: I stand corrected as well. Here's the link to this updates to post sep buds.

I *HOPE* I am wrong as well since I have a Sep/Oct build. Here is the web version of the doc:

Is the USB socket in the glovebox standard on 535?

Thanks

Yes, the USB port in the glovebox is standard. But it is only used to import music onto the hard drive (Nav system only) and to export driver profile settings. You can't play an iPod on it. You need the 6FL option for that.
