Home remedy for curb rashes

So I got a curb rash a few months ago…honestly with 19" rims its bound to happen sooner or later, as the basement car parks are tight as F***. So it was a major eyesore…thought of getting it repaired but knew it might happen again and also will have to get wheel balanced again. So decided to purchase silver nail polish…took about 5-10 mins and now I can hardly even know there was ever a curb rash unless I look very close! for $2.50 I would call this a success!

Why wouldn't you have bought a silver touch up paint that matches instead of nail polish that is going to chip off?

I agree with wrickem - some kind of touch-up paint would be better by far. Nail polish is intended to last a few days to maybe a week or two for the high-end stuff... I can't imagine it hold up for very long. Plus, without seeing a pic, I also have a hard time imagining how the color matching would work.

I have used nail polish earlier on the rims…and they have lasted for at least 2 years, which is when I sold my previous ride. It sticks so hard that it just doesn't come off. The nail polish shade is a slightly darker shade of silver than the rim but gets the job done. Earlier the curb rash had caused black spots on the rim, which could be seen from a mile away, but now you just cannot see it from far, you have to be quite close to the wheel to even notice it. Attaching some pics of the wheel after the touch up and pics of the ride!

Wow - that's a lot of damage. I was expecting a nick or two...

I suppose it's better than black. It'll pass a 20 foot test, perhaps.

I'm never the guy to knock on cheap mods or fixes. Nor do I believe that if you drive a BMW, everything should be top dollar, but you should definitely pay to have the wheels repaired.

Here in the US, it's about $100 a wheel, but you've got a lot of marks, so I would say its well worth it.

Your other option, put on more layers of nail polish and get very very fine sand paper and sand it down, so it at least looks even.

hmm…maybe I should get it repaired, this is more like a temporary fix I guess. I found a shop that charges $40 per rim, so not too bad

It's a half measure - better than nothing.
I did it on my old ride when I wasn't going to go to the expense of properly repairing them - especially when they were just going to get damaged again.
On my current ride I fixed it properly because it looks perfect and I can manage to keep them undamaged..

Agree, that's a lot of damage. I hit a curb a few weeks ago taking a turn too sharp and nicked about 12 inches on the rim. Used wheel touch-up, but decided to get it done by the guy that comes around once a week to my dealer to refinish wheels. Cost me $150.00, but looks like new. If you don't want to get it refinished, you may want to try the below link. I use it for small touch-ups and it's a good match.

haha its all about perception i guess...when I curbed my rims and I showed it to me friend and said I wanted to get it repaired (this was before using the nailpolish when it looked much worse), she said "whattt you wanna get such a small damage repaired seriously?" haha but yes it is a pain knowing its there, whether I can see it or not...guess gonna go to the shop this weekend!
