N63 550i owners come in
Ive been curious about the turbo sound and just now thought to make a post about it. From the interior, My E60 535i with DCI/jb+ produced the normal turbo spool sound. However on my F10 550i stock (except for JB stage 1) the turbos sound like a low pitch posi/eaton/roots blower when they spool up.
Does anyone elses turbos sound the same?? is this normal? |

You aren't going to hear the turbos unless you do something to the intake. There are too many baffles in the stock system to hear anything. They do that on purpose because the target audience isn't looking to hear a lot of noise outside of the cabin. It's why the stock exhaust is so quiet, as well.
As you saw from the responses in the general forum, very few people without intakes hear the spooling. So it's unlikely that what you're hearing is actually the turbos. Especially not a 'whine'. It should sound more like a whistle, if anything. Hell, you have to change the exhaust to Sport+ on my wife's M4 to even get a hint of the turbos spooling. And that car targets a completely different demographic. |
