Just bought a used F10...
Hello everyone,
I just bought myself a 2014 535i Non-M Sport with 32K miles for my 30th birthday. This is my first BMW and had a few questions/concerns. I had owned/leased several cars in my life, longest ownership being a little over 3 years.. I had always wanted a car that I could keep for a long time (10+ years) but didn't really set on a car until I learned about BMW and its performance/history. I wanted my car to be a rear-wheel drive, sedan with a manual transmission. I considered leasing a 2018 330i but ultimately ended up with this one. I went to the dealership, test drove it and ended up buying the vehicle right there. The vehicle: -One owner, personal lease -No accidents -Driver's side door lock sometimes won't unlock when pulling the handle -Occasionally, driver's side eyelid light above the angel eyes won't come on -Weird order from the A/C -No warranty I'd heard about the cost of ownership. I didn't care because this car had everything I wanted. But honestly, I think I should've taken a more careful look at the car before taking it home. I don't even have a history of this car. Now tell me, what did I get myself into? Please, any advice on how to keep this baby great and care free will be greatly appreciated!! Thank you all in advance. Some leaves and other debris may have gotten into the fan. Theirs a screen that normally prevents the debris from getting into the fan. This is a well known problem with this model.
Some people make there own screen instead of replacing with oem. You should be able to goggle this problem to see videos. |

- not sure about the eyelid light - Replace the cabin filters Overall sounds like a good car. I'd take to a BMW Dealer and get a full inspection and get all the services up to date. Post some photos if you get a change. Welcome! |

You mean it takes two pulls? That's normal. I coded my locks to unlock when I turn the engine off, but it takes two pulls otherwise; one to unlock the door, and another to open it.

On my wife's 535 the right rear door wouldn't lock/unlock electronically at all. It would lock mechanically (push/pull the lock "shaft"). I have NO idea how long it was that way! My dealer replaced the actuator under my CPO warranty so have no idea the cost.

Thanks for the replies.
For the door lock, when I pull the handle once, the lock rises then goes back down. I have to unlock using the unlock/lock button. Pictures coming soon.. |

The door lock pin gets stuck on it's way up and then returns to the lock position. I just had mine replaced under warranty. It's not a cheap job at the dealer. Probably parts and labor would be around $800. |

The door unlock takes two pulls. If that’s also not opening the door then your actuator May be faulty Take it to the dealer sooner rather than later as it’s an expensive repair. they should still replace it for you. Not a very common problem in BMWs but shit happens. |

I *thought* the door unlocks just from touching it, then the first pull should open the door.
An easy check is replacing the battery in the FOB for $1.50. May not be the issue, but CA has always been fishy on all of my BMWs (E92, E60, F10)

The part is around 150 EUR (but I'm still figuring out which one of the 3 ones I need). Dunno how much an indy will charge, maybe I'll do it myself though removing this door panel is a PITA. |

The sensor behind the handle should unlock the door on touch, and then first pull should open the door...

Some people answer the door question as if they're outside getting in the car, and other as if they're inside opening to get out.
My expectations on my F10. 1. Outside getting in: touch to unlock, pull once to open (my sensor is messed up too). Passengers side works without issue. Also I can't no longer touch the door to lock. Passenger side works. 2. Inside getting out. One pull to unlock, second pull opens. I thought this was default behavior? |

I agree 100%. Same for me on the outside, it usually doesn't lock from a touch. I always use the FOB to lock it. From inside, it should be a double pull. First to unlock, second to open.

try taking a soft microfibre cloth and carefully wipe the pad you touch on the inner door handle and see if that helps.
