Another Run Flat Tire (Michelin) story

I've been skeptical about RFT on my 2012 M Sport but had read that the Michelin Primacy ZP was one of the better ones out there.

Well it happened to me while out of town, I got a 1/4" puncture. The punctured tire was about 1/2" lower but it supported the weight of the car while I drove home. My local shop had to order the tire, since they don't stock the the 275/35/19 regularly but 4 days later the tire arrives and $475 light, I'm on my way.

What I learned is that run flats DO work. I'm amazed that the punctured Michelin tire ran with NO air pressure for almost 100 miles. But, the sidewalls were pretty well shot that even if the 1/4" puncture could be patched, the sidewalls have lost any of its performance characteristics. So the second thing I learned is 1) don't puncture your RFT greater than 3/16" AND 2) don't drive at zero pressure faster than about 50 mph or more than 30 miles

I'm glad I had Michelin RFT (but I wish I had conventional performance tires and spare).

Picture is of the tire: The deteriorated sidewall (inside sidewall, rubber crumbs all around) after driving about 100 miles.

Looks like the RFTs did their job! Just a shame that they cost so much to replace.
