Scott - Is this car what the "x-drive M5" really is? Or is this car in addition to the x-drive variant of the F10 M5?

what's wrong with an M5d? hope they don't use the M550d, 550dM or the 550dXM.. that's will just look stupid. why not a 560 hp M5d... why complicate things, keep it simple and clean. NO M BADGES ON REGULAR MODELS!!! I wont mind seeing a "d" next to an M5 badge but an M next to a 550d badge now that's M whoring!!

I've made it my own over the past month or two and although it pains me to openly admit this, it's almost made me forget about the Bimmer.. I either need to finally step up from the 328 or get a god damn porsche.

It's overwhelming how fun that Porsche is. And its only the entry 911

Now I just need to convince the pops to get the 991 the day it hits dealers so I can actually drive it before I buy a 10 year old used one

Is this guy serious? M is supposed to produce pure driving cars. Come on. Would you really wanna see an m badge on a diesel? We're not audi! The biggest thing that puts us in front of merc and vdub.. I mean audi.. is that we're pure. We are drivers. Enthusiasts. Afficianados. And m is what defines that. And a diesel is a car that somebody will buy because its a diesel. Not because its an m.

Too many of these people....

I have mixed feelings about this with regard to "whoring" out the Bmw brand, but I would rather have this than a 550. Gas mileage FTW and m type handling...awesome.

Scott 26 - From memory you previously confirmed that this motor will debut with the LCI- X6- March 2012?

X6- 5.0d? approx. 360 bhp- or would the M division have their own version of the triple turbo diesel?

Thank you..

Around 370hp & 470lb-ft would be more likely and realistic given the engine displacement.

Got'a love those diesels. Assuming 500HP, at 3900 RPM, that is 673 ft/lbs of torque minimum, probably more. if at 4200 RPM the figure drops to 625 ft/lbs minimum. Assuming 550 HP at 3900 RPM then torque is a mininum of 740. These are just the torque numbers at peak horse power. They usually make more torque at lower RPMs. Got to love that torque

From what I´ve heard from my sources we are looking at aprox. 380-395 BHP and a wopping 750NM

This is going to be one very interesting car for the european market where diesel plays an important role. Don´t expect this car to come to the US

Not in the UK it isn't, diesel is more expensive than petrol here also. £1.35/l for Petrol vs. £1.39/l for diesel according to our UK averages, thats $8.44 and $8.69 per US Gallon respectively.

edit: Actually, Super Unleaded (98 RON) is more expensive than Diesel.

I'm afraid in Europe and particularly in the UK diesel is more expensive than petrol. Once diesel got more popular the tax has gone up on it!

However, i will never buy another petrol car. Test drove a Porsche Cayman about a month ago and felt it was slow. Got back into my 320d which has 50% more torque and 80 less BHP than the Cayman and it felt like a rocket.

400 to 500 hp, I would like that to be true, but I think it is going to be more like 350-360hp.

In my country that triturbodiesel M550d would cost the same as a 550i or even more, where is the benefit in saving/mpg, THE argument for buying a dieselcar in the first place imo. Better save a bit more money for a F10 M5.

Let's see what the specs will be, I'd say 420-450BHP but never 500+....

There's a vested interest in not letting consumer diesels take off in the states. Does Detroit really have many offerings for diesel consumer vehicles for example? see quote from wallstreet.

if enough people clamor for it, sure. but it will have to be a substantial number. Auto culture and perceptions of diesels will have to change considerably in the states though. Even here in europe diesels are not perceived on par with gas in terms of perfomance, but even Top Gear makes a case for them against hybrids.

diesel falls in between regular and super in the UK and some other european countries but overall you're right.
Unleaded Regular $7.97 (average) Diesel $7.26 (average)

considering how much further you can usually travel on a tank of diesel as opposed to gas the price diff/premium in the states is marginal at best

Don't be a snob, I don't hear anyone in the mercedes community up in arms about the fact that they manufacture garbage trucks, and buses. Does that make the SLS any less of a car?

Does the Netherlands have some sort of emissions tax? I'm sure you'll see some savings there.

It would also be a great cruiser and much more fuel efficient than a gas/petrol equivalent car. Don't forget about that.

Sporty diesels are relatively new to the market. For the M division to even seriously consider a diesel there has to be all sorts of wizardry involved which translates to high costs.
