Frequent replacement of key fob battery

I have had to replace the batter in my key fob on 3 occasions in 6 months. The dealer says there is no fault? Anybody else experience the same?

That sounds very abnormal to me.

Once very 2 months? Your dealer must be smoking something or you sit on the key all day everyday accidentally pressing the buttons.

It sounds abnormal to me too. I was thinking the other day that the button press to open the boot (F10) is quite long - may be one to two seconds press. I think that this is going to mean much shorter frequency of battery replacement in the fob.

Since the boot open by hand is not very nice, I use the fob all the time.

I just about always open the boot with the fob, which is now over 6 months old with no sign of a weak battery.
'Shneeky', I agree that 3 replacements in 6 months sounds wildly excessive and there might be a fault with the fob - have you tried using the other one instead?

There's a good reason for the long press to open the trunk.

I was told by my dealer's technical manager that the battery in the fob usually last between 1 to 2 years.

If what he said is true, then having the battery changed 3 times in 6 months would be excessive.

Did you take Jon D's suggestion of trying out the other fob?

schneeky -

I have owned several bmws with key fobs, and the internal battery should last a few years - not a few months. Suggest you change dealers because yours is either misinformed or dishonest.

I am having the same problem with both Fobs. The batteries have died twice in both over the past year. The Dealer told me it had something to do with the fob communicating with the car whenever it is in range. I don't buy that and believe there is a problem.

MODEL
F01, F02 (7 Series)
F07 (5 Series Gran Turismo)
F10 (5 Series)

Vehicles produced from SOP to 09/01/2010

SITUATION
The radio remote control function is inoperative:

The vehicle cannot be unlocked or locked with the remote key.

The check control message “Replace Remote Control Battery” is displayed.

CAUSE
The radio remote control key or the battery in the remote control key is defective.

CORRECTION
Perform diagnosis using ISTA (Integrated Service Technical Application). Complete any test plans related to the radio remote control system.

When other causes (e.g., defective antenna amplifier or CAS) can be ruled out, replace either the remote control key or the battery of the remote control key, as outlined below.

Note: Damaged keys are not a warranty or program issue. Also, please confirm whether one or both of the radio remote control keys were previously replaced.

A. Vehicles produced from SOP to August 31st, 2009:

Replace the remote control key (without slide-in key).

Note: If the remote’s slide-in (metal) key works properly in the vehicle’s mechanical locks, swap the existing slide-in key into the new replacement remote control(s).

B. Vehicles produced from September 1st, 2009 to September 2nd, 2010:
