Rear sunshade problem, oily leak
Has anyone had any problems with an oil leak to the rear sunshade, particularly the small side windows? Mine has a lil oil leak coming from the pillar where u pull the shade from.
Any suggestions? Or just take it to the dealer? Thanks guys! |

Why not just take it to the dealer and have them figure it out?
On a brand new car, you have to be vigilant even with the smallest things, one small thing could lead to much bigger things, you dont want that after 18,000 miles, no more lemon law. |

I have this option and never have witnessed any fluid in the mechanism. We rarely change its position from the "up" location though.

I have the same thing! It seemed so silly that I didn't start the topic.
This is an oil. I cleaned it but flowed again: Uploaded with ImageShack.us |

I had the same issue and only on the back passenger's side. I noticed it every time I washed the car and thought it was water at first but then noticed it was oil and it was a small leak towards the bottom.

Arrrrgh! Had the same oil leak on my 2006 550i with sunshades and the dealership never resolved the issue. I just checked and have the same problem on the passenger back door on my f10. Just a little oil. I tried to wipe it with a paper towel and it wicked out and is now on the door. Based on experience, it will leak forever and is hard to clean up.

It's a bad seal in the shade mechanisim. My dealer already replaced mine. If you just clean it up and dont fix it, you will eventually run out of lubricating oil. This will cause issues with the shade down the road.

Would you mind scanning and posting your repair order so I can show my dealer? |

Hate to bump a really old thread, but can you post more specifics on what the dealer did? Thanks.

The dealer would have replaced the whole mechanism under warranty
