I came from E60 550i M-sport with active steering, and the F10 I have now is definitely lighter.

A buddy from work who came from 335i M-sport also said the same thing.

It's not used in racing because it's banned, not because it doesn't work.
Exactly. The Nissan GTR which owns the Nurburgring coincidentally has 4 wheel steering which is one of the reasons it has higher cornering speeds than most of its competitors.

I can find you plenty plenty cars with higher cornering speed and without four wheel steering. But why bother? It's not what you would call a "proof" and is pointless. Just like what you just did. I'll back out of this before it turns into a pissing contest.

This video explains the benefits of 4 wheel steering quite well.

My daily drive of about 30 miles in unrestricted twisting autobahn is what proves to me that my choice to go with IAS was because the cars that I drove without IAS were noticeably less stable at sustained speeds over 130mph.

All of us are different and expect different things out of cars. I imagine at speeds under 70 mph the benefits of IAS in high speeds would be unknown.

These are all personal observations in an applied environment, not mindless perpetuation of steering deficiencies of the F10 that gets rehashed like an intestinal virus.

Agree completely. I have noted that the only people who complain about the F10s steering and weight are those without IAS.

Those of us with IAS love the handling and cornering ability of the car.

Forget about the IAS, most don't even own an F10. Not that it is a requirement to be active on the boards but it gets to be old regurgitation of some negative talking points that they themselves have no first hand experience with.

I don't feel people in the thread are saying anything negative about IAS, they are just saying you can live without it.

I don't think the problem is an F10 with or without active steering. But those with IAS seem to fall in love with it and for those who don't have IAS wouldn't understand it and it's understandable.

Most people that I talk to who don't drive BMW because they say the steering is heavy, they don't think handling is an important issue and complaints that too much effort is needed to wrestle the steering wheel.

I think BMW is trying to appeal to those people who have never own a BMW and this is a mistake as they are taking away the thing they are famous for and that is the 5 series is the best handling in its class.

I choose the 5 over the 3 because the 5 is the most balance car in terms of comfort, room and handling, since the 3 is gaining size every generation and the steering gets lighter on the 5, I may consider a 3 series in the future.

The F10 is a bit heavier to steer than the E60..... which was a bit heavier to steer than the E39.....

Just my personal experience as owner of those cars...
