M5 exhaust on 550i, did you delete silencers or x-pipe?
I finally got the m5 adapter plate installed on the 550i x-drive and am having the m5 mufflers installed along with the m5 diffuser. Wanted to ask what all else you did to the exhaust. Did you delete the factory x-pipe or silencers?

I went back from my stock resonators (so my shop cut right after that) then m5 comp exhaust all the way back

I ended up doing just the muffler swap. I like it, extra rumble, definitely sounds like a v8 now with no drone at all. Best of all with the windows up, it's still a sporty executive sedan. If I need more sound later I can just delete the "pancake" and replace with a x-pipe.

M5 competition exhaust sounds pretty bad ass with catted downpipes.

Yes, M5 mufflers are installed. Had the shop cut the stock exhaust just ahead of where the stock pipes are crushed down, still don't understand why BMW did it that way, and have 3" piping from there back into the M5 mufflers. Clean install and the valves still work. Just got my exhaustmeister in the mail so planning on installing that over the weekend.
I also picked up some mildly angled 3.5" (90mm) exhaust tips, going to see if I like them more since I feel the 3" quads are undersized for the M5 diffuser. Now I just need that new front lip to come in... |
