Hints and Tips
I've had my 520d Touring Sports Auto for 2 weeks now and are still trying to get to grips with the full capabilities of the car and particularly the Prof Media system.
I thought I would try to kick off a thread here to encourage sharing of good information with others. Some weeks back someone poseted the list of thing they had programmed the memory buttons with which I found really useful. I'll just bet there are things with this car that I haven't discovered yet and I'm happy to read through 49 that I have to find the 1 cool one I haven't. I'll start it off : 1) If you don't fancy spending £80 for the iPhone 4 snap in and you don't want to have the long iPhone cable filling up your armrest, you can but a 5cm version from various places online for under £4 2) If you don't like having to press the door open button twice to open all doors, you can change that from the settings so they all open on the first press. |

Couldn't find it at local retailers. American and British e-commerce have taken over the world.

There was a similar thread a while back here: http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=445736
There's some good tips in there. One additional item I've discovered, is that many of the settings are linked to the key (remote control is what BMW call it) at least the way I have my car set up. For example if you have electric seats, the seat moves to the last position it was in when the car was last used with that key. Also if you reprogram the numeric buttons, these are also key specific. It works quite well, as long as you dont get the keys mixed up between two drivers. It appears to be the key that unlocks the car that takes priority if both keys are present in the car, which makes sense but can catch you out at times. |

this might be a old info but..
1. if you press start engine button while in drive, car will shift to park(of course, when you are not moving) 2. if engine is turned off when auto hold is on(car is being held) parking brake will be engaged automatically. this is somewhat obvious since auto hold uses parking brakes |

Close Windows with Comfort Access
Of course you can roll down the windows and open sunroof with remote by holding the unlock button (but you can't use the remote to close).
With Comfort Access... with all doors and trunk closed HOLD your finger(s) when you touch the handle to lock the car. After a couple of seconds all the windows and sunroof (if left open) will begin to roll up / close (as long as you your finger(s) remain on the RIGHT spot on the handle). You can do this on E60's as well and with they key on E39's |

Probably I am the only one who had never thought to do this until today.....but programming one of the memory buttons to switch nav voice on and off is very handy!

OK, just for you Jon here's a pic I took this morning (it's the one on the right). Good enough? Note the two-colour alloys, silver at rear and black at the front. I reckon I will set a trend with this one.

That is pretty poor effort though....I know it does make you feel like a bit of a 'tool' taking pictures of your own car but that takes the biscuit!!!...but you did promise pictures so thanks? |

Okay, I have spent too much time on rereading Jon's request and then Shakenbake's reply and photo to not ask the question ... WTF?

Jon is clearly hungry for a view of what his own future car might look like. It'll look like the above - but cleaner! LOL |

...excuses excuses....thanks for the photo though and yes looking forward to getting my F11 soon!.... Spend most of my weekends travelling around the UK watching my football team lose! (AVFC) and then ferrying my kids to another birthday party or pastime they have suddenly developed an interest in...never get to clean my car also which is why I will post pics of mine as soon as I get it as it will be the one and only time it is presentable! |

You're wrong here. Auto Hold uses ESP (DSC) breaking capabilities to hold the breaks. The real, mechanical parking breaks are only engaged after engine is off (and you can hear that if you turn of the engine while having a window open).
