Wheel alignment, tie rods frozen
Hi guys, I just took my car for an alignment, was told it can't be performed due to frozen rod ends. My mechanic advised me to replace them both. Anyone that has ran into this issue before? A $150 alignment might end up costing me much more than that lol.

2011 f10 100000 miles. Yes he's performing the repair. Will be ready Monday. I thought at first he was trying to pull a fast one on me, but after some research I have found out that it's a common thing to happen on this cars. I don't think it's too bad of a Bill, $750 for the two rod ends, alignment balancing and tire rotation.

A little over priced in my OPINION.. you can prob get both tie rods OEM for about $75 bucks each.. $600 in labor, alignment, tire rotation and balancing is a bit hard for me to swallow. I purchased the tie rods myself and my local mechanic only charged me 200$ labor and a wheel alignment using a Hunter Machine. Again my OPINION. |

Tie rods seize in all cars, not an issue specific to F10's. When I need to replace mine, I plan on slathering the threaded part that goes into the ball end with anti-seize to try to stave off the issue for longer.

I got new tires back in October (2016 w/70k mi at the time) and my driver's side was seized. Found out when I decided to get an alignment due to uneven wear. Also made sense, since sometimes I would get an odd feeling on the driver's side front when on the hwy.
I still haven't replaced it lol. That's on my to-do list whenever I get around to the brakes in the next few months too.

I had the same issue with my last car, a 2012 328i. I think I paid a couple hundred for the replacement and alignment. The car was originally from Maryland, so the salt was probably a contributing factor.

Haven't run into this in my 2011 535 yet, but just had this issue on my 2013 M3. Very common problem.
