Did I Reduce F10 Exterior Noise With $29.56 + 30 Minute Install Time?

I thought long and hard before deciding to post, as results may not be replicated in other vehicles.

There is a long history of folks chasing the noise reduction in the F10, and after driving around for a month now, and having rear seat passengers confirm, there is a small chance that this info might help other F10 owners.

After comparing a G12, that is really quiet, with that of the F10, there were major differences between the two regarding the seals around the doors and while I could have modified the G12 gaskets, it was much cheaper to use the two items below:
  1. Used $20.99 for 20 feet of 047"x0.55" D-Shaped Door Seal from Amazon, and ran it the length of the rocker trim as shown in picture 1.

  2. Used $8.57 for 33 feet of window seal from Amazon, to fill the full height of the gap between the front door and rear door, mounted to the rear door lip. Another was run the height of the gap between the fender and front door, mounted on the front door, as shown in picture 2.

  3. Used the remaining $8.57 for 33 fee of window seal from Amazon to fill the gap between the hood and fender, both sides, as shown picture 3.

There is a night and day difference in exterior noise in side of the vehicle. It was well worth $29.56 and 30 minutes to install.

The key to all of this working really is how you install, as well as "where" you install....I can provide more pictures if asked.

I will post a picture of the fender and door gap fill in a future post. I plan to redo it so it's tucked in a bit better.

BTW, the road noise due to my almost bald run-flats will be further reduced when I put in non-run-flats this Spring...but even now, the F10 is now almost as quiet as my G12.

Wish I had done this 9 years ago.

Will do...I'll post them later in the week.

I also found another gasket shape for the bottom of the door, and ordered it. I will install that, test it, and post more pictures this weekend.

While I could claim the noise reduction could be discounted as a placebo effect, this effect can't be manifested by all my passengers, without telling them what I did.

The sound reduction is similar to the sound reduction from rolling up your window completely, versus having it opened about an 1/8 to 1/4 of inch. And it could be said that my door seals are bad...they are 10 years old and I'd say the $28 is much cheaper than replacing multiple seals on each door.

Noise propagated through a solid panel is NOT reduced, but this noise reduction is mainly from my almost bald RFT's.

I am currently trying to address the air noise from the mirror assembly.

I did this to reduce the door noise while I was upgrading my speakers.
