Springs Installed Backwards????!!! Holy Sh*T

Fellaz..I've been on here for the past two or so weeks crapping all over the way my car runs now since installing my new H&R springs. Earlier today I get a reply on my thread from another member (Thank you dblock2151) with the photos of some other F10's with H&Rs and they're fronts were no way as low as mine. Then Alan I mentions that he believed they installed messed up or the springs were wrong. That right there got me nervous. Right after that I call H&R and get the correct serial numbers that are on each spring and verified from the rep that the front springs are 28947VA and the rears are 28947HA. I just got home about an hour or so and immediately grabbed the jack and lifted the passenger side to check it out. I was FURIOUS to see that the front spring was installed in the rear and the rear was in the front. I called H&R once again from my driveway to make sure I have the right numbers and they confirmed again the same numbers. I immediately after called the shop and left a frantic voice mail and received a call back from one of the owners 5 minutes later. At this point I was a bit calm and relieved that at least he had the courtesy of calling me right back. He insisted that there was no way this could happen and that even if they were to make a mistake the springs wouldnt fit. Before I overreact, can someone confirm that this is true??? that there is no way they can install it wrong because it wouldnt fit?..he also said that sometimes the spring companies mark the springs wrong..I really really doubt this. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing happening?? I dont want to be a total Ass and start name dropping on what shop did the install, because its pretty well known in the area and I dont want to overreact without getting to the facts. He said he wanted me to bring the car back tomorrow morning on the lift, but I cant because I have to work and pay for crap like this. So I will wait until Sat. morning anxiously. Wana hear the kicker, on my way to AC on Friday night, I hit a small-medium sized pothole on the GSP that took a tiny piece of my new front wheel off. F**CkED Up!!

What do you guys think??? Can this be possible, or did H&R have the numbers wrong??

Sorry, needed to vent.

I think the shop is right. When I got my dinan springs installed. One side was lower than the other. The driver side was .75" higher than the passenger side. I thought the guys at the shop probably installed the two front springs on one side and two rear on the opposite. I talked to the shop owner, and he tells me that there's no way that could be possible because the front springs wouldn't have fit in the rear, visa versa.

That's my two cents if that helps. But mine is a 550i and the springs are probably different. I hope you get it figured out soon. Sorry about the cracked rim.

This is horrible! Who the hell installed the springs? They should be sued!

The VAs are for the front and HAs are for the rear, no wonder your drop was so low in the front. The GT has air suspension in the rear but the rear links lower it so the back looks more settled, yours looked way too low in the front to be honest, like it was on coilovers.

I'm hoping that's the case. Stuff like that does happen i guess. I'd rather pay more money and just switch to AC'S springs with piece of mind knowing at least the shop was not to blame. I just can't find another 5 out there with the front slammed like mine. Very weird. Like I said, at this point I'm not putting blame until Saturday when they see for themselves.

I think it's possible, but not likely if they've done them before. They should look a lot different (a couple inches difference in height and the springs are thicker diameter on the front)

If the did mess up, I will definitely be handing over the bill for a new passenger side wheel and pain and suffering lol this weeks gonna go by so slow now that I'm dying for Saturday to come.

I kinda wish I stuck with stock wheels and suspension now lol

I was just gonna say that lol. Oh well, nothing I can do now but wait and go back to the shop on Sat. It just bugs me thinking it could actually be a "defect" from H&R as the shop owner claimed.

On some cars it's not possible since the size of the coils are different bet. Front and rear but i remember that all 4 of my ACS springs looked very similar so it maybe possible on this car. I know I purposely labeled the springs front/rear myself before dropping the car off at the shop so this sorta thing doesn't happen.

I highly doubt H&R mislabeled the springs. Who did the install?

Bro, I got a bad feeling about this. This explains it. I think they are backwards.

Perfect, cause now you will still have that aggressive drop with sacrificing comfort

I was actually considering to mention that possibility for you when I replied previously on your other thread, but I thought that since you had a shop do the install this wouldn't happen...

The rear springs are much softer and would definitely give you a big drop in the front and a strange ride...

I did the spring swap myself and can confirm that the front and rear springs definitely are interchangeable. You definitely have to pay close attention to the numbers on the springs when you do the install. Otherwise it's quite easy to end up with the springs mixed up between front and rear. They are very similar both in diameter and length.

The F10 has a "coil over style" strut and spring both front and rear with the same/similar spring design and dimensions.

Your shop definitely messed up. I'm pretty sure the springs are not mislabeled. This also explains the big drop on the front!

VA = Vorder Achse (Front Axle)
HA = Hinter Achse (Rear Axle)
