Side skirts
Planning to upgrade to the Mtech frt/rear bumpers, are the non m and mtech side skirts the same? Tried looking for examples and checked the threads here. Seems like ppl never mention about upgrading the side skirts as well?

I did front and rear only. I'm not particularly fond of the extended side skirts that come with the M Sport aerodynamics. If they came with the car, great, to pay hundreds to add them, no thank you.

The M Tech body upgrade is incomplete without the side skirts. I've got the M Pack factory installed, so the regular bodies look flat to me and miss the eye-catching curves.
The regular skirt and the M Tech one are different (see the pic below), they come with a set of pillars etc. and the M Tech is a little bit more expensive (you need to check local quotes, we have them like USD1000 per each side). The electronic catalog shows two options: primed or painted. Considering BMW charges for the painted option like the CEO himself did the whole damned job, I would order the primed skirts (sets) through a local partner, together with installation and paintwork. In that case they can provide a discount on services. My former company's co-owner used to say: "Nothing is totally perfect, just make it perfect enough". I believe, the M Tech full body kit along with the Vorsteiner carbon fiber elements is the mod that makes the car looking perfect enough.
Adding the carbon fiber side skirts sounds like a good idea, however you need to make sure of top quality and ideal fit. The thing is that unlike the factory plastic pieces, the carbon fiber ones are really stiff and if they are not made precisely by OEM placeholders, there will be unadjusted gaps that are very hard to hide. |

Seibon has been pretty spot on with their carbon work. One reason I think having a jet black is if there are gaps it shouldn't be as noticeable. Trying to make my car standout or apart from the rest and I think going carbon side skirts with the carbon extensions is gonna look pretty sweet. Along with the aggressive Vorsteiner diffuser that you're running and the front lip will complete the look I'm going for.
Not sure if I should go with one of our site sponsors here for the mtech front/rear bumpers or go OEM? |

Ok got it. Cool if these guys provide a good quality.
If you mean the choice between replica and OEM, this is the only question of cost saving vs. guaranteed quality. My friends' experience of trying alternative or replica parts returned different results, not always negative but who wants to pay to try. The guy to whom I sold my stock M Tech diffuser confessed, he's got the M tech front bumper from ebay at great price. However the headlights washers didn't work well. I would definitely choose quality i.e. OEM, ordered through one of the site sponsors/local partners at your choice. |

Sorry to bump an old thread...
I just added M-sport front and rear bumpers but was wondering if I had to change out my side skirts to complete the package. Do Sport and M-sport models share the same side skirt? If so, great! That means less parts to order since my car is Sport.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess the easiest way is to do a visual compare with a M-sport car.

lsturbointeg,
Can you tell from these pics if my side skirts are flared? http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=871561

I know there is a difference between the two. But IMO, that difference is too little and not worth the money for parts, paint and install. I'd rather just do front and back with a nice set of wheels. Just my opinion thou

The Sport package has nothing to do with the exterior of the car other than the wheels. M Sports have different front and rear bumpers and different side skirts.

OP.. if you are doing the full M Sport conversion then get the skirts. If you don't, after a while you will begin to see the unbalanced look of the car.
