F10 550i Performance?

Was wondering what kind of performance numbers (i.e. 0-60, Quarter mile etc...) we should expect for the new 550i?

I realize the V8 4.4L Twin Turbo engine is already in use in the 7er, 5er GT, and X6. Those vehicle have more weight than the upcoming 550i but have 0-60 times in the low 5 second range. Would high 4 seconds be unreasonable for the new 550i?

My other question or concern is turbo lag. I have read some magazine reviews saying there is some initial lag with the new twin turbo v8 but it quickly speeds up. Anyone thinks this is going to be a problem?

There is no turbo lag at all- some people imagine things. The tip in on the pedal for the drive by wire in some cases is what people think is "lag". On the throttle then off and then back on does not yield hesitation.

Low 5s will be easy- the car is going to be a beast!

If you are looking for a low 4 second sedan with RAZOR sharp throttle response, you need to seriously consider an M3. The car is F-ing awesome. The 550 is a bit more comfortable but the drive (even the new car) is not even close.

I've had both, and it ain't even close. The current M3 is so perfectly sorted, you really have to own and drive one for a year to understand just how awesome it is.

Based on the X6 and the fact that it weighs what- 1000lbs more or so (?) and gets a 0-60 around 5.2-5.3 I would expect the new 550i to come in around 4.6-4.7.

Course, when Car&Driver gets around to testing it look for 2.1-2.2.........

Mmmmm...... the M3 sedan. It's a great car- basically a coupe with 4 drs so you can take the kids to daycare and back at warp factor 9......

As for me, I'd rather get the coupe and the wife can take the rugrats in something that has more than 2 doors.

But if you want luxury to boot and more interior space AND are willing to sacrifice a little performance (ie; no canyon racing) then I think the new 550 is the answer. Plus you can always upgrade the suspension/power etc...

NewM3Driver & MI6--

I will wait and test drive the new 550i before deciding. I would seriously consider an m3 e90 with M-DCT. I know the two cars will offer very different rides: 550i being more a torque driven engine, great highway cruiser with lots of tech and luxury versus the much more sporty m3, high strung NA v8, and great dynamics.

The other consideration is that I will probably look to lease it for 24 months (I like to change vehicle often). I heard the lease rates and residual on a m3 are horrible . Oh well...we shall see.

I am in the same predicament.. 550i or M3.. however with the 135i cab with us for atleast another 2 years I figure the 550 would be a perfect blend especially since you can get it in 6 spd.. wooo hooo!!

Honestly the 5 series is just such an unbelievable package of sport, comfort, and a bit of bling all nicely wrapped together!

You can probably have your cake and eat it too. In 2 years the new M5 should be out. Certainly won't be cheap and it will be a FI engine--very different feel and sound than your old glorious V10.
