Thats kind of hard to believe when its the SAME motor. Different transmission? Something is choking the 535 when u can gain more power with the same motor.

According to Terry the 435i turbo outlet is 4" and the other N55 engines are 3". Maybe the turbo breathes better or it may be software related. With piggyback tunes nothing is certain.

I know you guys have probably seen a million post by me lately, but the 535 is now a serious contender with a GSR tune. This just happen btw within the past few weeks. Years prior the F10 was falling short on tune-ability. I'm rocking a stage 1 323+ unicorns and 417+donkeys to the wheels!

Just wanted to put that out there for future enthusiast considering a 535. I'm sure their 550i stage 1 tune is wicked.

I'm planning a video run for YouTube with another member who has a stage 1 JB4 550i. Want in on the video action? Oh wait, I just saw you're in Jersey.

Do you know what a stage 1 JB4 550i traps?

Its not really a contender.
Not for the 550 at least.

Stock Tu's making 400+, stock n63s making 380-390 stock.

Flashed tuned 550i tu's are over 500rwhp.

The problem isnt hitting the peak numbers of the 550, the problem is the powerband comparison. The 550s make gobs of torque and very impressive horsepower, but it carries from idle to redline where as the 535s make fantastic torque and above average power but bleed off heavily up top. While that may not seem like much, the faster you go, the more of a difference it makes, and to top it off, the 550s respond quite well to mods as they have a bit of turbo to go where as the 535s fall off pretty hard up top as the turbo runs out of air.

A few 535 guys were able to match 1/4 mile times of a stock run of the mill 550, but they were still quite a bit off on trap speed and the back half as the 550 will truck right past them. Now that a couple shops are finally tuning the 535s, if you were to do an aftermarket turbo and tune with downpipe/exhaust combo you would walk all over a stock 550.

Yes my dyno run shows me drastically running out of steam at the 5k rpm mark. Though it does not feel like that when pushing it to 6k. The tech mentioned better breathing will help it hold the power longer and add more horsies. DP, catback and stage 2 tune I think will allow me to beat a stock 550. I think. I say that because of stock 550 AT is 4365lbs my manual weighs in at 4050lbs. The extra 300 shed from my car makes a difference when tuned. But there's only one way to find out

Also isn't it true for every 100lbs you can shave is good for .01 seconds quicker?

Got any links on how to shed another 200lbs or so for my 535? Looking to get into that 3 series weight class

With flash tunes ramping up its a bit of a different story for the 535. I'm rocking the GSR tune, but hearing good things about eurotune. Mines putting down 320whp and 417wtq on the stock turbo. A PS2 turbo should put me over the 400whp. All this said, I still think I should've just got the 550

One thing to note is the 535 is 300lbs lighter than the 550. If you could figure out to cut another 300lbs on the 535 with a flash tune you could stand a chance against the 550.

I'm on my 4th F10 (!) and I find that the 550i n63tu is in a totally different league from the N55. The n63 with Stage 2 was no slouch either but the design flaws were just a bit too much to swallow.

The N55 is not underpowered but there are no wow moments for either the driver or the passengers, while by comparison a slightly hopped up n63tu provides a near supercar like experience for anyone in the car.

I would tell anyone that just wants to enjoy the luxury feel of the F10 to get the 535. It will not disappoint. The build quality is impeccable and the 8 speed transmission is spectacular. But anyone that wants more of a racecar feel to go with that luxury should definitely step up to the 550, hands down. It's a really big leap.

I also have to mention that I believe the 550 is really much better suited as a daily driver than the M5 (of which I drove a handful). The acceleration of the 550 feels very linear and usable and the xDrive lends a crazy stability to maneuvering in any type of weather. In Texas I would get the M5, but in NJ the 550 reigns as king for everyday use.

The 535 stock should be about 5.5, 5.7sec 0-60 depending on your launch. After the flash I was able to get 5 flat. I'm guessing the stock 550 is good for 4.7, 5.0 seconds. A tuned 550 is probably good for 4.5. The torque increased over a 100 on n55 along with a SB really gives that power everyone craves. I still regret not getting the 550, just saying there is light at the end of tunnel for those of us with a 535. Get flashed. The piggyback works wonders on a 3/4 series though. I'll use dashcommand again and see if I can record a new 0-60

I guess it would be in my best interest not to drive a 550 or even an M5 until I decide to buy another BMW as I'm more than satisfied with the stock power of my 535. I might get depressed if i do I still am in the process of doing the performance side of things but maybe I'm just at that age where...how much more power do I really need?

I posted this before but this was when I was inquiring about my 535 Turbo upgrade:

I sent an email to PureTurbos and here's there response for my 2011 535

Email from PureTurbos:

Hi,

Your turbo is different than the 135/335 turbo but we do have our STG2 available for your vehicle also.

First thing is no more 89, these engines crave octane so if you want to run pump gas only you need the highest octane you can find(91/93/100. JB4 is the easiest to tune on these vehicles. The stock fuel system is fine until you want to run higher quantities of ethanol. The higher the octane the more boost you can run and the more you will get out of the STG2 turbo. High flow cats or catless downpipes are another upgrade we recommend to get the most from the turbo.

Our turbo is 100% bolt on, no modification required. On 91 you can run 15-17psi which is around 420-450whp to redline. The addition of meth would put you over the 500WHP mark. The turbo is $2500 plus $775 core deposit.

I have a JB stage 1 on my AH5 and recorded 4.7 0-60 on the M performance app.
