sound of m5 mufflers mod on 550 and comparison m5 mufflers mod vs dinan exhaust

installation of oem m5 mufflers in place of the stock ones seems to be a popular and good way to provide a nicer v8 sound to the 550. however the only sound clip i found is from the excellent post on the topic by scott135, the other sound clips coming from cars having further modifications (xpipe etc) in addition to the mufflers (result in too loud of a sound for me). anyone who just has m5 muffler on his550, if you could please post some sound clips that would be much welcome.
i am considering doing this mod and would like to make sure that it is wife-friendly sound-wise in daily operations (no drone, not attracting unnecessary attention with an overtly aggressiv sound). looking for a deeper yet subtle sound (meistershaft et al. is no no for me).
i also got dinan recommended by some exhaust shop but seems pricey. Any feedback from experience on m5 muffler (only) vs dinan would also be appreciated. thanks.

The beautiful thing about the m5 exhaust is (obviously price) and you can keep the stock exhaust valves. The exhaust valves keep it quiet with no drone.. I have an X-Pipe with my valves zip tied open and I am going to add a pair of vibrant resonators to even out the tone... does slightly drone between 1500-2000rpm but thats with an x-pipe...

In summary you will be safe with a stock m5 exhaust welded onto your 550i pipes with the exhaust valves attached...

I can't stand these m5 muffler posts anymore.

Get what I have. Makes power no drone. It's priced incredibly.

Why spend money for just sound with m5 mufflers.
When you can have both performance and sound.

Or get ripped of by dinan and there ridiculous prices.

That's the reason I had a company make a system for our cars.

There is a thread in this section with sound clips check it out.

Here is the system..

What he said too. The lsd system also sounds great and some weight savings!

thanks for bringing this lsd system to my attention. few questions:
- with this system can you use downpipes and catalytic converter from stock?
- is it 550 xdrive compatible?
- since you do not use the stock exhaust valves anymore, does it lead to any code malfunction or premature battery drain (i tried the zip tied method for few weeks and sucked battery juice like no tomorrow, removed the zip ties and everything is fine); how do you handle the stock vacuum pump, tee golf method?
thanks guys!

works w/or w/out downpipes.
it has a port to plug in the hose on the exhaust
you will have to do slight mod to make it fit the x-drive, I know 3-4 guys on this forum that did this already.

If I was you, call LSD and talk to them about the system and they will answer all your questions.

But IM telling you.. GET IT.. you will make power sound amazing, and no drone.

I added the exhaustmeister to it, so I keep it closed when im cruising and can barely hear it.. until I open it w/remote.
