DSC query.

Morning All!

I'm hoping to pick the collective brain of the F10 forum.

A colleague (and fellow F10 driver) and I were discussing our car's DSC systems and the way they work.

We both came to the conclusion that the system works on a combination of limiting power through ignition, braking rear wheels independently and employing the electronic slip diff (if indeed we have one!).

We both drive 520d SE (I know, it's the company car tax!).

Are we anywhere near the mark on this one?

Thanks in advance.

It's a bit confusing, but the way I understand it is as follows: in normal operation individual wheel braking will be automatically applied to control stability and over/understeer, also engine power will be reduced to prevent rear wheel spinning (there is no LSD or any other differential control). Selecting 'sport+' on the toggle switch by the transmission or briefly pressing the DSC/DTC button in front of the toggle switch will disengage engine power reduction, which will allow you to spin the rear wheels (good fun), but stability control, in the form of automatic individual wheel braking will be retained.
Pressing and holding the DSC/DTC button for more than 10 sec will deactivate all of the above and you're on your own. You should definitely know what you're doing to use this with lots of throttle - I haven't been brave enough to try it!!!
